Fantastic opportunity missed to open with a win at OT. They were there for the taking, but we simply don't have the attacking threat/pace and Poch's tactics are still highly questionable. I can imagine that Crystal Palace would have also won 3-1 there today. We played well enough knocking the ball around like we always do , when allowed , a bit like against Milan on Wednesday.
Bentaleb's passing was terrible and the goal totally his fault. Walker was stranded going forward and could not have expected that. He did his best to get back and was very unlucky. I was a bit disappointed that Trippier didn't start, but Walker did pretty well. Although we defended fairly well, they were so poor that I worry about the next 2 games against Leicester and Stoke. The Stoke game is a classic Spurs unable to break down the opposition at WHL who frustrate us and then score from a set piece or a break. I wish today gave me some optimism but it doesn't as we still don't look like a team who can make enough chances to wn a match. Desperately in need of at least 2 additions but , even if we get them, I think we wlll struggle to get many points from our next few games as they will need to settle in.
I think with the induction of more pace, aggression, and intent that we solve a current critical weakness. By all accounts, including Poch, we seem very set to be making that attacking addition. I've been bangin on about it for several years now, returning some pace to our side will have a truly massive impact. It has been a glaring weakness, and it has affected us both offensively and defensively (our lack of pace higher up the pitch exposes the back line), and so much deficit can be patched up with such a small investment (relatively). One player, one attacking threat with the ability to quickly reach the play, the confidence and aggression to push, and intelligence to affect the game, and we're in business.
So take heart, maybe we'll get this guy in and we'll end this nonsense with a sheer inability to find a way past stubborn sides.
