Sorry mate but you're wrong. If Lennon insists that he will only go to Everton and Everton won't bid more than 4 mill then spurs have to take it or leave it, you can't force Everton to pay more than they want to. It's irrelevant who else bids or how much it's Lennon that decides where he goes, not the clubs.

Not wrong at all.

If Everton really want Lennon and are the only bidders they might believe they can get him with a £4m bid. Knowing we want to sell they are then in a strong position.

If other decent clubs come in for him offering £5m they have a choice to make. They can change their bid or they can take a risk and not match the other offers. Lennon hearing Everton aren't upping their bid might end up choosing to go elsewhere.

The Everton board might not also want to tell their manager they aren't getting a target he wants because they won't offer the extra million needed. This can leave the manager feeling he isn't supported.

It really is a lot more complex, but also simple to understand, than what you are saying.

What's our net spend currently? In the last few windows our net spend has been either positive that we recouped more than we spent or equal. I would have thought in that regard nothing will have changed and it would remain the same for this window. I think we can judge our incoming on that basis.
You really think if a bargain was offered to Levy at the close of the transfer window, he would pass it up to achieve a zero net spend?o_O

I'm pretty sure Dragon posted about Martin Jol getting replaced by Ramos before it was known if I recall correctly and was proven right of course

What's the chances of that happening? But overall if we looked at activity in the past we have been reluctant to spend more than what we have recouped unless we have been forced too. The only thing I can see possibly influencing us to out spend what we recouped in straight fees is the lowering of the wage bill.

Was it Dragon that went on tour with the team, and posted what was basically an article about their conversations with the team (cracking read if I remember rightly), using their user name, which lead to them getting busted, pulled up by DL, and told to stop the ITK or GTFO?

Wasn't that runoured from very early in the season?

If my memory serves and this was 8 years ago now dragon either said it b4 it was out in the media or had details very early in the story. I may be wrong tho. Just remember feeling shocked and thinking who is this dragon character?! Always paid close attention to any of his/her posts after. Dragon's latest info sounds pretty positive

Recent history though:

2014/15 - 3 players signed after 11th August
2013/14 - 4 players signed after 11th August
2012/13 - 4 players signed after 11th August
And people don't think levy leaves it late! Window doesn't really open for him till the last 2 weeks

If another club bids say £7 million then DL would ask them to drop the bid to £5.5m and increase the offer to lLennon by £10k pw (£0.5m) or similar - so the other club's bid is not changed in total, just timing is different. Most footballers will follow the money so he'd go to the other club
You're making too many assumptions. "Most" footballers but not all. I said that if Lennon insisted that he would only go to Everton, and Everton refused to pay more than 4 mill then spurs have no choice but to take it or leave it. That is a fact those circumstances.

Glad you posted this. I was inferring the combination of preferred signings and net spend but good to know the history of doing the required number of deals is solid, especially considering my post is getting optimistic ratings.

I'm fairly confident levy will get 3 in, just not anytime soon! He's clearly playing chess on these targets much to many people's frustration. Can he win on all three? Possibly not but I hope so.

- Fazio, Stambouli and Yedlin
- Bale money
- Modric money

Not £60m worth of players on a zero net spend budget

As I said most footballers move for money. That's not an assumption
