Good to see our heavily invested in scouting network was able to unearth the obscure gems Evans and Hernandez from some far flung footballing outpost

Not necessarily anything wrong with either player, but I think we were all hoping for something a bit more interesting and intriguing from our shiny new scouting network
Pretty sure they have identified some more unknown players.

But if the manager says I want players with prem experience, these two may well deserve a place on a list of potential targets when taking into account price and availability.

Dawson in his prime for us was slated by some fans of other teams (wrongly). Evans has won the league and isn't as bad as some of you think

The thing with underwhelming names is that in isolation of course, nothing to get excited about, but all top teams have unsung heroes that are commited to the team cause and nowt else - someone like Scott Parker, who would die for the cause.

Granted Johnny Evans is not a name any of us would pile to the top of the wanted list but if the algorithms suggest that he could do a job then for a nominal fee, I'm sure hge would have done.

As for Hernandez this guy is a Micheal Owen kind of striker which would have done our bench no harm to have on our side, even starting the odd game to prevent Kane from burn out.

I agree. Him refusing to play this weekend and a transfer request would be enough for WBA to say, he didn't want to play for us. I suspect UTD are doing the same with DDG.

depends if he wants to move out having given them a big payday and with his head held relatively high, or being wholeheartedly booed everytime they see him again till he dies. most modern pros?

ah, its the slight mysterious injury card... as opposed to the old head aint in the right place classic.

skip forward eight seasons; Leicester are top, two games in the new term - Foxes boss Mourinho is talking up Johnny Evans as the best PL CB since Rio Ferdinand.

SC'ers are debating the form of one Leandro Damiao who has scored three goals in his last 34 appearances in the famous old shirt and someone says: I bloody knew he was a cabbage.

Another points out, that blue and yellow fish don't go well with onions and they were sure we wanted Evans at some point long ago - back when A&C (RIP) ran the transfer thread with an iron rule - why didn't Levy just pay the £7m and be done with it?

Yankspur Jnr chimes in: Tim Sherwood is the only choice for the job, just like my dad/brother always said.

This is a very good point. It's alright "unearthing gems" from the far reaches of the globe but we already have a lot of inexperienced talent in the squad. Perhaps it was a case of other boxes needing to be ticked with these two, and we wanted players that have Prem games under their belts for these two positions. The fact that Alderwiereld has been done for CB, and Berahino is now the No1 choice for CF would suggest it's an area we were always looking closer to home to fill.

Who said that was the case?

There is nothing at all to this other than your own assumptions.

Agreed, there will always be a place for an opportunistic signing that the manager likes, regardless of any kind of box and this could be one of those.

It will come as no surprise but I would have taken Evans if we couldn't have bought Toby. I would also still take Hernandez, even if we sign Saido

Even if he was merely on our radar that's not particularly inspiring.

No wonder you and Rob opted for 'cabbages'.

Anyway, all's well that ends well. We got Toby 'cabbagecrusher' Alderweireld so no real reason to complain.

This should make everybody feel a bit better

Evans in on 65k a week right now
Hernandez is on 90k a week

Evans would make more than Vertonghen and significantly more than Alderweireld
Hernandez would make 3X what Kane makes.

And I realize these numbers are just pulled from the net and thus may have faults, but if close.......no way this is happening. This is why the transfer direction between us and United tends to go one way. We just can't compete with their salaries (although that may change if we get the stadium built and keep our supporter-base). And this doesn't include the fact that their agents will be looking for a bump in pay.

Don't worry about it. Alderweireld means no Evans and it's Berahino instead of Hernandez now. These were just targets at the start of the window we have now moved on from.

Well we hope its Berahino, unless a northern club suddenly become interested.

My fear with pedro now going to Chelsea (so out of the blue it is obviously just to piss utd off) is that utd will look at berahino as an alternative. Let's just hope the stories of them chasing mane are true as I don't know who our other options would be at this stage

I've been unable to post in a while - I went down on my wife 2 weeks ago, and I've been wrangling with her minge ever since. I've only just surfaced.

But now I've washed the stickiness off my fingers I can say how good it is to have 2 of the best ITKs as SC residents. The info has been great. Berahino is good, certainly needed but not pant wetting. But if we can get Illaramendi in I would get very excited.

I am the Mingewrangler.

Are you a Chilean Miner? I'm not sure how else you could survive in such a dank and hostile subterranean environment
for that length of time. How many Canaries did you get through?

Utd are looking at wide attackers not centre forwards so I don't see why they would look at Berahino as an alternative.

That cryptic proves one thing for sure

Cabbages come in many guises, they may take weeks to digest, but ultimately the result is inevitably a big steaming heap of shit

Cabbages may come in many guises, but I'm pretty sure a pea isn't one of them. A cabbage is a brassica, while a pea is a legume.
