skip forward eight seasons; Leicester are top, two games in the new term - Foxes boss Mourinho is talking up Johnny Evans as the best PL CB since Rio Ferdinand.

SC'ers are debating the form of one Leandro Damiao who has scored three goals in his last 34 appearances in the famous old shirt and someone says: I bloody knew he was a cabbage.

Another points out, that blue and yellow fish don't go well with onions and they were sure we wanted Evans at some point long ago - back when A&C (RIP) ran the transfer thread with an iron rule - why didn't Levy just pay the £7m and be done with it?

Yankspur Jnr chimes in: Tim Sherwood is the only choice for the job, just like my dad/brother always said.
Gave you a funny for the Yankspur (Cletus) bit.

I'm surprised it's even a remote possibility to be fair. Interestingly standard are saying Poch has gone off Bender so looks like Illaramendi has topped the list.
That's a strange article in the Standard. There's no reason given why. If a manager cools on a player and a journalist claims to know this then I would have thought the reasons might be alluded to. It mentions his injuries over the last few years but it's not as if this is new information. Doesn't add up to me.

A pea is not a fucking cabbage. My man is calling me tomorrow with some updates. I know that's a bit of a tease but its better than a dire cryptic
If only I could give you a triple winner. Cryptic indeed! Gobbledegook, more like.

Berahino is still failing to excite me at all.

I know he's now the second coming for some as he's the only forward we are linked to but for me he's merely "better than nothing".

Obviously I expect a volley of negative responses and ratings for not conforming

Do you not think that was because he didn't have the players he wanted to alternate?

I would imagine every manager has a favored XI, but a less rigid coach could arguably play to what's available. (last season) If Kane was coming off 3 matches in 2 weeks and has a slight knock, maybe it would have been more appropriate to play Townsend on the left as a traditional winger with a target like Ade in the box. If Mason had a knock, you might shift a bit to bring Stambouli in and play with a true CDM.

Either way, this is a discussion for the general chat, but I was just saying that I don't think we should ever really consider the ease of breaking into our squad as a guaranteed "Pro" in our column.

My fictional kid wouldnt be allowed in the house if he/she thought Sherwood is the only choice for the job. I'd disown that kid.:shifty:;)

But only if he signs a new contract, surely his wage wont change if he doesn't.
Well if he doesn't move the likelihood is he will sign a new deal.. the player & agents hold all the cards in this, they know what Tottenham will pay him, so you can bet your life they will be asking for more from WBA.. If they don't match it & refuse to sell there left with a disgruntled player who could be a disruptive influence or not bother his h*le.

That's why 25ml is a ridiculous valuation for a player with his reputation, if you count 25ml as the transfer figure, then add on an extra 5% of the transfer fee that the FA get for his registration, signing on fee probable a couple of million, legal fee's, banking fee's & relocation fee's then with VAT on top your looking at a deal closer to 30 -32ml all in. Anyway I'm off to watch some footie.

Failing to excite me at all I can't agree with.

Failing to excite me the way a 20m or more player would excite me, definitely.

Maybe worth noting on the Johnny Evans thing, that for a lot of the time , according to JJ, TA wasn't actually on. Imagine if Levy had 'just paid the fucking fee...' on Evans, we'd never have got TA instead. An example of when sometimes it's worth taking your time in the transfer window. Basically shit can change!

Dire Cryptic?

Defensive midfielder per chance?

Ex Bulgatian National shot putt champion scouted by Mitchell during a Budgapest holiday in 2013?

That Dire Cryptic you mean?

Not to be a debbie downer, but there are two sides to Poch. There is the play whomever is in form, try the youth, develop the talent side; but there is also the extreme rigidity that saw him playing his favorite XI to the point of burnout (often in two matches in a week). Once he finds a lineup, he's pretty hesitant to change it.

Man City is incredibly hard to break into, but I don't think we are just an open door either.
Will have to see what happens this season, last year he really didn't have much choice

This is all very fun, but the bottom line is that the Club need to dig deep and pay the money to get these players in to get our season going!, every year it's the same it's turning into a joke!.

There used to be a very old saying, which was still alive in England up until the 1940s at least.
"Do what cryptic thou wilt shall be the whole of the law of the Shit. Shit is the law, shit under will."

This was largely thought to echo the sentiment of another much older saying, probably developed in a viking tribe.
“There are more things to be thought of by men than cabbage alone.”

An even older source, of very uncertain origin, tells us finally:
"Link a player to a colour or to what from soil can be produced, but sign him permanently not"
