I reckon it's the likelihood of loaning a CM (Illaramendi or Rabiot) which is causing that, as we are running out of sellable assets to be able to afford to buy one.

Selling Lennon and Fazio would still leave us c.£7m short on funds for say a player like Illaramendi or Bender, so to buy we'd have to sell Carroll too.

You can't have 3 senior players fighting for 1 place. Look how long Fazio lasted outside the 'tight 22'

I can't see it not being a RWF, but only dependant on Lamela (Juve) or Dembele (Sunderland) going.

JJ has named the three that are going. That's ITK. Why talk of Lamela and Dembele going when ITK says they won't.

Because he said yesterday that Fazio, Lennon and Ade had to go to fund the CM, so presumably someone else will need to go to fund this conditional 3rd player? Unless they are a loan or free transfer.

Think your wrong on this completely. Every itk has said we DONT NEED to sell. This has been repeated constantly throughout the window and it is getting quite irritating. Not directed at you but this must get mentioned every other day...

Christoph Kramer - back from loan and prefers to stay at Leverkusen
Sven Bender - happy at Dortmund
Lars Bender - tenuous link
Adrien Rabiot - Apparently his mum handed in a transfer request!
Asier Illarramendi - Stalling! Wants CL team
Victor Wanyama - Apparently wants out of Southampton, but they won't sell

New options we may not have considered:

Ki Sung-Yeung - back from injury, PL experience, confident, tidy player with an eye for a pass
Maxime Gonalons - means having to deal with Lyon again!

It's not looking great is it!?.
IMO, Illarramendi on a loan move could be our only chance of getting a DM.
I'm struggling to think of anyone else.

1) We've balanced the books every window for 6+ years now, despite 95% of ITKs promising the fabled 'war chest'

There's been suggestions that Poch will be using two strikers, so we might be seeing variants of 442
