Are we creating chances though ?

I missed the first 15 minutes but did not see one clear cut chance for either side during the match .

Are you sure you watched the whole match?
F.ex. Kane was alone with the keeper on one occasion, isn't that a clear cut chance?

Kane, our only striker in the whole squad, has one goal in 9 games. What more needs to be said why we aren't scoring
I still honestly cannot believe this was allowed to happen. Even though Kane isn't scoring, it would be a disaster if he got injured as he really is the only one who can play the role. If we had a half decent option now, I have no doubt that he would be playing at the moment with Harry having a bit of a breather We were lucky that Liverpool had injuries to 3 out of 4 of their front men but the potential comparison shows the situation for what it is - Kane v Benteke, Sturridge,Ings, Origi. This simply cannot be allowed to continue for the whole season and we need to bring ,preferably, 2 actual strikers in , in January. I suspect we may get just the one though and rely on Njie and Son as alternatives. If we fail to get even one in, we have absolutely no chance of maintaining a top 6 challenge or Europa /FA cup runs in the new year.

It was a colossal fuck up. Didn't surprise me as Levy's done it before.

As expected the club has tried to play it down by suggesting that Son and N'Jie are our striker options, and that Pochettino only wanted the highest quality players.

Absolutely amateurish from those involved in our transfer policy, and could have serious repercussions for Kane's career if he loses momentum and confidence due to being run into the ground.

We miss Mason - his forward passing, his runs and one twos.

May have only scored one but he created several chances in games he played and was link man.

Miss his drive and energy

Honestly surprised to see this thread, as I think our attack has improved tremendously already since last season. It looks much more dynamic, more balanced, and more incisive - and this is even without Son given he provides so much of these qualities. I think we're still waiting to see players gel a bit, as the healing time is going to take awhile after such terrible performances from the attack last year and the resulting loss of confidence. Players didn't at all trust themselves or one another, and so I think it's going to take time to build that back up. Son seemed to restore a considerable amount of that, and Lamela and Eriksen seem to be picking up a bit of swagger, but it won't be immediate.

Nonetheless, I like the direction things are headed and it's my impression that we're on an upward trend with regard to the attack, even if at the moment things aren't yet full swing. I'm confident that the end result will be something we will all enjoy.

Sincerely,
Guy who spent every weekend bashing our shitty attack the last two years

I think we are good up to the final pass/cross or when we have to finish a half chance.. Plus we don`t seem to have a player who can beat a last defender to make that chance for himself.. Maybe Alli or Njie have that in their game but I dont know if Poch will give them the freedom.. I would love to see a creative midfielder and dynamic skilful striker who can create the odd chance for himself come in during the January window.. I am happy with the rest of the squad.

our attack is going to be fine. Kane had two chances he would have buried last year and N'Je forced two fine saves. On top of that Son is out and the front four have an unsettled midfield feeding them. We will regret not getting another striker - we already have against Swansea - but there's no point in crying about that until January.

But considering the injuries and youth in our side I think we are actually creating more chances than I expected.

We were dumb enough to think that a 22 year old with one stellar season was going to repeat it and not get tired and play practically every game.

Fucking stupid decision .

And, we need one in in EARLY January(ie preferably before the FA Cup starts) not right at the end. We should have a deal in place ready to sign him ( it won't happen of course)- This latest Belgian striker, Laurent Depoitre, seems to be the most likely candidate at the moment

Poch has wanted a striker for the last two windows, he warned the board several times in the press to move early for targets, yes he did move early for some targets but a striker was the most important target.
With Mitchell on board the mistakes of the past shouldn't be happening really.

The thing that is driving me around the bend at the moment is the lack of width. Our fullbacks are giving us next to nothing going forward.
I agree. We haven't used width effectively for years. Just watching New Zealand in the rugby now, and the way they use every inch of width of the pitch to turn teams round is wonderful. Same thing applies most coordinated activities be it football or warfare. Get behind your opposition and get them turned around and you can hurt them. We still play infront of teams far too much.

Well...some of them were presented to us today-you know, from stuff like two Liverpool defenders running into each other or Skrtel diverting a pass into the path of Kane. They're not really coming about as a result of fluent attacking play but the high press certainly has its benefits.

I think Poch is correct in saying that we had 4 clear cut chances today.

- Pass and move is still lacking.
- We are often guilty of a lack of composure and poor decision making.
- Lack of width at times.
- Still too many of our players don't get into the penalty area - wide player coming in on the back post for example
- Feel at times we are still playing too much as individuals. People do their own thing rather than react based on what another player has done. Often people making the same runs or all coming towards the ball.
- Individuals off form (Kane, Chadli).

integrating Alli, Son & N'Jie into our attack has, i think, caused some confusion for Eriksen, Lamela & Kane. Give it time and i'm quite confident that Son & Alli will sink into that equation with little fuss. N'Jie does need to calm down though if he's going to play in big games. He frustrates me with how frantic he looks and today he was far, far too hyped when he came on but I think that will pass with experience. Hope so, when he did start to mellow out a bit his shots looked on the edge of dangerous.

One thing I'd like to add that's wrong with Spurs attack is that several Spurs fans still spell Njie wrongly - and instead spell it N'jie

Kane Kane Kane.... Needs a rest yet Hodgson plays him twice.. He was the difference between a win and a draw today but that's football.

Should not travel with the squad to Anderlecht. REST.

I agree, but he will be on the bench at least.

Problem is, good strikers are very expensive and clubs don't want to let them go...looks like we moved early for our striking targets in Martial and Ings, but they decided to go elsewhere. We thought we could do a deal with West Brom it seems, but it looks like their chairman gave us the runaround in the end. I think the fact we didn't sign anyone shows we HAVE learnt from he mistakes of the past. It would be easy to sign a panic buy like a Stambouli or Fazio to plug the gaps we felt we missed out on, but those players just end up taking wages and squad places up but don't have the necessary quality to get on the pitch and contribute often. So why not save the gunpowder until the next window?
