I don't understand what happened with Chung Mong-Joon my understanding was what he was being accused of every other country that bid had done as well so surely representatives from England, USA, Australia, Russia, Qatar etc. should be facing this as well.
Everything I had heard about this guy suggested he was a really good guy. He had been elected as a vice president to FIFA but then started to make some noises about how dodgy some of his colleagues were being so they got rid of him as fast as they could. He really did seem to want to clean FIFA up which I couldn’t say the same for Platini. I also heard he is incredibly successful both in business and politics and seen as honourable although with a few questions about things he did when he was a bit younger.
I may be wrong and he may be as dodgy as the rest of them but it could also be that they found an excuse to get rid of the person that was most likely to completely stop the gravy train that the FIFA exec enjoy.
He was accused of agreeing to vote swapping in the WC vote. And that £777m global football initiative that he would only put forth if SK won the WC bid is kinda sketchy tbh. Why not just impose it without getting the WC? Or at least a version of it that might not be so costly? He claims that its FIFA trying to shut him up since he's so outspoken on Blatter and the ethics committee and wants to clean up FIFA. But that starts to ring hollow when you see that Prince Ali has been equally outspoken on the corruption and Blatter(and opposed him in the last election) and has also been constantly talking about wanting to clean up FIFA yet he hasnt been subjected to an ethics committee investigation.

Also, the ethics committee has investigated Joon in the past too. Wouldnt surprise me if the Garcia report had some info on Joon. Seems they might be coming around to finally accepting the actual report instead of the absurdly edited version that came out.

What I don't understand is how Hayatou ended up working at UEFA after being kicked out of the IOC.
But then saying that Blatter knew he'd be a good 'un to get on the gravy train...

Think you might have answered the question ! (nb Haytou is Cameroon's representative and works in FIFA rather than UEFA)

Fifa president Sepp Blatter is appealing against his 90-day ban from football's world governing body.

Klaus Stohlker, Blatter's friend and adviser, said: "He has appealed already to Fifa's appeal committee. He is defending his position and he is sure that he will be found not guilty."

Could anyone make this soap opera into a TV series ? Probably not as nobody would believe it !

The thing is FIFA doesn't even make the rules. Thats done by the IFAB, which consists of the 4 four home nations(1 member from each nation) and 4 members from FIFA.

The advantages of being in Switzerland is the tax system, neutrality, location is near the alps and etc.

I just think FIFA like the IOC needs to have less power to actually work and same goes for other organisations like UEFA and etc.
Why would being near the Alps be a point in favour of Switzerland being where FIFA's based?

One of the reasons for the headquarters to be there was that it was in a really nice place and was a retreat for the rich people in charge. Not that it makes right. Imo Milton keynes would the best place, get everybody miserable that they are in the concrete city so that they work quicker in order to get out:whistle:

Well if that's true for that bloody reason alone it should be yanked away from there!

The lack of bribery laws (I think there actually are laws now) privacy around banking and tax laws were probably the biggest reason it was setup there.

Tokyo Sexwale may be the best name I've ever heard.
hardly an inspiring list, is it.

Corrupt businessmen, corrupt politicians, middle eastern tyrants, people under investigation and proteges of the last regime.

Wow. The future of the game is in good hands.

And Blatter has said the decision to award it to Russia was already made before the vote, plus the 2022 was meant to go to the USA until Sarkozy and the others got involved.

I also didn't use 'Middle East' in the way you're suggesting. Please read again.

No honour amongst thieves. He'll sing like a canary soon enough and then they'll all devour each other. Will be fun to watch.

anything to stay out of jail himself. If he's facing time, I really wouldn't be surprised to see a story about him attempting suicide pop up. Dignitas is nearby.

He's got way too much ego for that. He'll deny, deny, deny and then if it gets too hot he'll just say it was everyone else and bring the whole house down.
