how can anyone not love Lamela? lost count of the amount of times he drove us forward today

only player I can really say didn't deserve to be on the losing side today

Are we running out of fitness?

Seem to be going off the boil big time.

I think we looked mentally and physically tired today and the heat certainly did'nt do us any favours.

We've assembled a very good first 11, now though we need to work on improving certain areas of the squad to enable Poch to rotate or substitute key players like Kane and Dier or fill in for suspended\injured players like Dembele and Alli.

To keep us fresher in at this stage next season we really need to add another striker, a DM and a ball carrying midfielder this summer.

We really need Sunderland to beat Everton in the week which will mean they stay up and Newcastle have nothing to play for.

I think so, Leicester even had the rain yesterday, the stars aligned for them alright
It won't be as hot in Newcastle, trust me. I don't have good memories of Spurs going there for wins and am not expecting anything. A draw would be enough, but we should play for a win. God help us if they haven't been relegated by then, because it will be a cauldron.

I wouldnt bet on it though as i can see this going to the last day with the geordies sweeping us aside with ease, and with arsenal having to play villa i think we all know this story and its ending.

Why would they sweep us aside with ease seeing as they been utterly inept all season?

I REALLY don't fancy us at all next week, also don't fancy villa against the goons.

Frustrating, but I am mentally preparing myself for the 'hardship' of 3rd. End of the day that is still above expectation.

You're rightly going to think I'm a total dumbass for this but in my defence I was out on an all day piss up yesterday. Anyway, for some reason I'd got it into my head today that we needed at least a draw or we'd handed 2nd to Arsenal if they didn't lose.
I've been near suicidal for about the last 5hrs until I realised I'd dropped a clanger lol. Actually feel elated now.
I went and did some diy work as I was so upset.
If it was Man City or even Man U the pain wouldnt be as bad but Arsenal? God please no, not after everything we've been through.
I'm now shittin my pants about Newcastle. I know how I'm gonna react now if we screw this up.
Think I might crawl in a hole somewhere and not come out until June lol.
Such a lackluster performance today. AVBish. Far too slow getting forward and far too much piss balling about around our goal area. Hardly recognisable.

Chill out people. Sunderland will beat Everton in midweek and we will get what we need from St James'park to squeak 2nd place.

It is now obvious that the title was beyond us given how bulletproof Leicester have been down the stretch (albeit we never took the opportunity to apply real pressure on them when it mattered). Given that CL qualification has been guaranteed I am actually secretly glad that the weaknesses in our squad have been exposed which we desperately need to address over the summer.

It has been mentioned that we need a holding midfielder, a forward that can run with the ball and make things happen and a striker. On the forward, I can't help but feel that we let Andros go a bit too easily. I would have loved to see him given another chance as he is Spurs through and through, different to anything else we have and there is clearly a real player in there as we have seen so far in a struggling Newcastle side (more goals in his time there than his entire Spurs career!) If you offered me Townsend or Chadli to keep in Jan, I know which I would have taken.

Finally, I think we need to ensure we get a couple of LEADERS as part of our summer recruitment as the last few games have not only exposed our lack of strength in depth but also a lack of composure, experience and on-pitch leadership in crucial moments. The CL will be another new experience for most of this squad and we need a couple of experienced campaigners to come in and steer this young, developing team through choppy waters (and also to make sure people defend corners and set pieces properly!).

Looking forward to a 2nd place finish and then next season. COYS.

Good post, although Townsend had a lot of opportunities to prove himself. One thing we could have done, and might still do, is to move Jan into midfield as the holding midfielder and bring Wimmer into central defence. He has played there before, and I had wanted this a few games back when Dembele was unavailable.

Because they haven't been "utterly inept" since the waiter went there and their last 3 are better than ours. If they have a chance of survival it will be a difficult game for us, particularly given how we played today. If Sunderland beat Everton it will/should obviously make a difference.
