Maybe he's just Wenger's plan B. He's going to be a Walcott upgrade without costing them much money.
22mill + 140k a week is not much money?
Vardy has been very good in his England cameos too though and they haven't been going hoofball at all with him.Maybe I'm just being desperately hopeful, but I can't agree with your analysis here. Hoofing it up to Vardy is exactly what Leicester have been doing all season, imo. Maybe the word hoofing makes it sound aimless, but very direct play is what Leicester do. (Sorry for re-posting this but I think it's relevant here.)
Leicester's play and Arsenal's play could not be more different, they are literally polar opposites.
In terms of the video, I'm not seeing that much that is impressive. There are a few really nice goals, like the lob over the keeper, the flick for England and the first goal against Arsenal, but mostly he is just smashing it as hard as he can. To me it looks like a video of an on-form, confident player, rather than one of a quality player. Even his penalties don't show much attempt to aim the ball.
I think you can look at the chances in more detail and see that there are big differences between those and the kind that Arsenal get.
Some common themes in Vardy's goals are things like:
- No players between him and the goal - back 4 relatively high.
- Vardy is the first player into the box
- Very few defenders in the box
- Little or no physical contact from defenders
- Close defenders are usually the last man, so can barely do anything.
- Assists coming from behind him.
Compared to Arsenal goals from a similar compilation:
- 1-2 players between the scorer and the goal - back 4 in the box.
- Plenty of players inside the box with the scorer.
- 7-8 defending players in the box
- At least 1 defender physically close
- Assists from in front and sideways more common.
Perhaps Wenger has not lost the plot and has a very clever tactical plan for Vardy up his sleeve, but I think this deal has shades of our Darren Bent transfer about it - signing a player based on their record but not paying attention to the style of play that benefited them. Vardy is going to have get used to being involved in the build up in tight areas and also get used to having totally different kinds of chances.
I can see him scoring a few, but not in a way that actually improves Arsenal. Or at least that's what I'm hoping.
Told Vardy has more than just the Arsenal offer on the table.
pls tell me, that Spurs aren't interested
There is a reason I have posted it in here and not in a Spurs related sub forum.pls tell me, that Spurs aren't interested
Doesn't the clause only relate to Champions league clubs? Assuming it does, and it's not us, then it's got to be Man City hasn't it? I guess there could be non-English clubs in for him as well though.
So predictable. Leicester lose all there stars. Finish mid table next season, whilst the big boys pick and choose who they want. Next people will be calling Leicester a selling club! The top teams have world class managers, and will have brilliant additions. I hope we can add top quality too
Release clause does only relate to CL teams, but that's not to say someone else can't make a bigger offer that Leicester can't turn down. Liverpool would be the obvious seeing as they had reportedly already made him a bigger wage offer than Arsenal, but couldn't trigger the release clause. May be they've offered £30 million for him.
I did wonder that, but I thought Leicester were trying to keep hold of him and were going to turn down other offers if they could? as you say, if the offer is high enough....
Has Vardy actually said anything or the all just losing their shit over rumours?
He's said absolutely nothing...
Which is why Gooner fans are in meltdown, because they were under the impression it would be signed, sealed and delivered yesterday morning.
Not sure if you are talking about Leicester fans? - but they may find the silence deafening.
Even though there was no release clause involved, I remember the Carrick transfer, he was on England duty and the rumours went on despite no quotes from him. The more it went on the more we got the feeling it was inevitable, and so it turned out.
