Why would those 2 players be "out of reach" though?

We're certainly a more than big enough club to be able to sign either of them so I can only assume it's the price that it is making them out of reach?

Or maybe we're just not interested in them.

We are a financially we'll run club, but Poch must eventually start to wonder why we can't get 'his' transfer targets over the line and end up with Louis Saha on deadline day.....

FML.

If it isn't the worn out debate around the positives and negatives of Levy as a chairman then it's rolling out the old Louis Saha on deadline day line (Who incidentally turned out to be a useful addition to the squad that scored some good goals iirc, not that anyone seems to care about that).

Maybe we can be a bit more original this summer lads? Just a thought.

Maybe. I was picking up more on the out of reach part of the question.

I just don't like the idea that players of their caliber could be considered beyond us when I personally feel that we are capable of getting most players these days..................assuming we'd be willing to pay the fee of course, which is pretty much the kicker in any of our transfer negotiations.

It's not the fee that's the problem, it's the wages. We can afford the fee but most top players want more wages than we are prepared to pay.

So glad you aren't doing the negotiating on behalf of Spurs. But then it is always easy spending someone else's money. Things like value for money, cash flow, comparable cost of alternatives, etc., don't have to matter. Just spend whatever and don't worry about the consequences.

Comparable costs, you've hit the nail exactly on the head.......we've just received an extra cash injection from the new TV deal, enough to make PL teams top of the tree when it comes to income, let alone the CL money we will get :greedy::greedy:

With that cash injection will come an increase in fees and wages for players coming to his league and yet, here, we have a potentially great young striker available for £17M. Yes, a whole £17M, before long you'll be paying agents more than that FFS and we're arguing and possibly letting someone else in over a couple of million :banghead::banghead:

That's the reality, we lucked out with one striker the whole of last season, it will happen again if we penny pinch like this deal after deal.......lets see how the mood changes in here on deadline day when that happens.......again (y)

Pointless arms race that will only serve to hike up ticket prices and satellite subscriptions

Our academy can deliver much more.

I do however think Janssen is a sensible top gap until Harrison and Sterling come through, essentially buying in because Coulthirst didn't make it.

But they are the impact players, after Eriksen and Lamela have tried the guile route.

They are, but don't think we have signed anyone yet who will improve our first 11. We definitely need someone in the final third who can offer a bit more pace, craft, guile and imagination to break teams down.

Eriksen and Lamela are both 24, 2-4 years off their peak.

Surely the sensible approach is to keep making sure they take big strides forward each year, like they have been doing, rather than flying in some fancy dan over their heads? That's organic growth

Likes Erik Lamela, deal with it.

What let us down last season wasn't a lack of quality in our first 11, it was a lack of depth in our squad. Who in our first 11 do you feel needs replaced? We came third last year and we have a young team that will only improve. What we need imo is stronger depth in key positions within the squad - we have made a fantastic start with our first signing and if ITK is to believed we will be following that up with a much needed back-up forward.

So far so good imo.

I thought the point of the Champions League was so that we could attract better footballers. If we are going for an attacking midfielder then we need to show a bit of ambition and have a real go for the likes of Insigne and Boufal. We nearly won the league last year ffs, we're a decent sized club, we're a good side and money really shouldn't be that much of a problem if it's the right player.

Do you trust Poch and his team to identify the right players for his system?
