We could also gave a bad start to the season and have the media start piling the pressure on.

We could but that would have nothing to do with Mitchell and everything to do with our end to last season. The Mitchell story is being completely overblown and the man is being turned into something he is is not.

Yeah exactly, people already are using this story as a scapegoat to a scenario that hasn't even happened yet, It's so typical.

This...
And tbf Southampton haven't exactly turned to shit after losing him.
So Jol and Arnesen was a good pairing, then Arnesen left, we appointed Comolli. Neither Jol or Ramos got on with Comolli. We appointed AVB, we waited around for one year then appointed Baldini and tthey didn't get on either. There was also Hoddle and pleat back in the day.

The media will use that in bashing us, poch said the team was affected by the media's bias towards Leicester.

The media won't give a flying fuck about Mitchell, because by and large he really isn't that relevant. If we get off to a bad start what will be relevant is the Newcastle game, that is what will be referenced.

Surely it's not hard to see how things can take a turn for the worse

AVB didn't get on with a lot of people, neither did Hoddle. You've got to be professional. There is not one single person I work with that I'd go out of my way to socialise with out of work. Yet I work effectively and professionally with them. You can say what you want about Levy and his ideas but one thing he never ever appears to be is unfair or unprofessional. Therefore if someone working under him has a problem with working with him it's more likely to be a,problem with their own professionalism and ego. For example, if AVB didn't get on with Baldini because he told Levy he didn't think spending £50m on Hulk was a good idea and that Lamela would be a better and cheaper long term prospect then that just shows a lack of professionalism and understanding of the decisions and resources of your employer. Likewise, if some of the newspaper articles are true, and Mitchell threw his toys out the pram when we didn't match Chelsea's £30m and £125k a week offer for batman who was going to be a back up to Kane, then he's not someone we want at the club anyway...

Of course they will reference the Mitchell story as well as Newcastle. Any players not performing under Mitchell will have the Media questioning the set up, they will wheel out Redknapp and Sherwood for comment. The media will do everything they can to paint a club in turmoil.

Well I don't want to get into the AVB arguments again but the only player he badly fell out with while he was with us , is Adebayor.

Well the Guardian are fairly clear . They say that after the regime change at Marseille , Levy tried to renegotiate the payments .

Marseille 'unhappy with the structure of payments proposed by Levy having previously agreed to pay the majority of the fee upfront '

It could be deduced that due to typical Levy prevarication we have lost the incoming player PLUS an important part of our scouting team .

The Guardian also had the headline earlier about Mitchell saying it was a nightmare at Spurs , tho that wasn't in quotes . I'd speculate that Mitchell , having scouted/arranged the player's transfer felt that his reputation/trustworthiness had been compromised by Levy's late prevarications over what in 2016 Prem terms would be paltry sums.

But Levy was doing what any good businessman would do. He was trying to take advantage of Marseille in a time of uncertainty of you believe what has been reported. Anyway it seems like we are still chatting to Marseille so I can't see how the media can claim this to be the reason Mitchell was annoyed.

This was posted by @nattydredd in the player's transfer thread

L'Equipe :-

"They claim Tottenham and Marseille are in regular contact, and even held discussions yesterday. It’s stated that deal could be done for the same amount, but that would only be a purchase option at the end of a loan."

"Both the players have completed their medicals, and are now waiting for Marseille and Tottenham to complete negotiations."

If memory serves, under Jol and Arnesen we achieved a 9th place finish, the following two seasons under the Jol-Commolli axis we finished 5th twice in a row, having never finished in the top 6 in the premier league before that.

I might have imagined that though.

I'm not denying the benefits of manager and *insert vaguely applicable job title here* being BFFs, just saying that it has far less affect on what we witness on the pitch than people seem to think. Ultimately, a strong manager who has ultimate control and support is most important, and that is seemingly what we have.
