For me last season we lacked pace and guile. I think that pace helps us more in big matches and on big pitches like at Wembley, whereas guile helps us against weaker teams, especially in those frustrating matches at WHL.

So I'm going to say

Big Games/CL - HIT
Other games - MISS
So you are wedged on the fence then............

I feel that we're in danger of putting together a team of try hards who want to kick the defensive door down, but are incapable of picking the lock when that tactic fails to produce results. For that reason I, like many others, would have loved to see Isco come in, a player capable of picking the lock, of getting his head up when it matters and producing the perfect through ball.

It's not Sissoko's fault that he isn't Isco, and perhaps it isn't our fault at all that we couldn't make that signing happen, but I remain dissapointed that we have ended up blowing our load on a player who is going to contribute to more blood and thunder bluster, but little in the way of actual final third quality.

If he proves me wrong, great, but I think he'll flop.
Of course Im going to get slated for this but I fear something far worse. Us once again going back to the AVB situation, us signing a lot of players with questionable attitudes/who dont have any affinity making up our squad(not our first team), who wont fight for the club when the situation doesnt go their way and if they get dropped wont be happy bunnies.

These type of players were the same guys who tried to get Poch sacked before the younger players did a mini coup

It is unknown whether this is happening but that is my fear. One benefit of the high number of homegrown(not necessarily english) players has been the togetherness shown in the squad.

Its all relative. Most people would say that adebayor was a miss, but he was a big hit for a year or so. I expect sissoko to be a qualified hit.

i also don't understand why, if we wanted this type of player, powerful/direct, we didn't go after Breel Embolo, 7 years younger and about 14m cheaper (and less wages).

apparently went out clubbing in MK and over done it, something along those lines I picked up in the transfer forum over last day or 2

Have you ever been to MK it's enough to drive anyone to drink.
Bit different tbf. Lennon spent 9 years with us, breaking through as a teenager and spent essentially his whole prime with us. Sissoko is already 27. Not really a fair comparison.

Only just 27 if we had signed him three weeks ago we would have gota 26 year old for 25m?

I think he will be a miss, he will do well initially but then his form will tail off and we will struggle to sell him on for the price we're looking for.

He looked terrible at the Euro's. Personally I'm glad we didn't go for him.

Big hit for me, I'd go further...he will help us challenge for the title once more. He has what we lacked and I bet he will be right up for it.

It's pretty daft to judge any player based on a Euro/WC, particularly a 20yo. I don't think Sissoko had a good Euros, he just caught the eye in one game with a couple of bulldozing runs.

I saw Sissoko as a 20yo regularly for his club and he was no less erratic and no more promising than Embolo is. Embolo works fucking hard off the ball, and can play as an AM (robust, direct and pacey - just like Sissoko) and as a striker. And he would have cost half the money in fee (if the alleged 30m is true) and wages.

I'd rather have risked 15m on Embolo (and half the wages at least I reckon - which would over 5 years probably save us another 7.5m) even knowing it might not work than spend 30m plus maybe another 15m (60k x 5 years guess?) on a player who even in his prime has never looked like a world beater.

I get your point, BC- however there is a sense that we can't keep buying potential, that the squad needs more experience to lead on the pitch. I've read your posts about us buying Sissoko and understand your concerns. I think this is Poch's biggest test of his career: can he turn around an expensive, inconsistent yet talented player to become a vital part of the Tottenham machine, one that adds a new dimension and makes us more successful. Interesting times; if Poch succeeds he cements his stature even further in the club, if he fails Levy becomes less willing to listen to him over transfers

I know too many bloody roundabouts, go there 3-4 times a year for Costco or sit in the car while the wife, daughter and son go shopping

Also have a lot of family that way, 99% being yids

I thought he was bloody awful today. Lazy, poor 1st touch, lacked concentration and no end product. What does he do? Doesn't read the game well either, just an athlete. Reminded me of Jenas. Will never make it with us. Waste of money. Drop him or we'll be lucky to finish mid table

Cut n paste where necessary in the next few weeks for those supporters in the West Stand etc etc...

I'm voting no. Mainly because I don't want to come across a hypocrite since I've blasted him many times in the past whilst playing for both Newcastle and France. I've never been a fan, he just has too many flaws for me, nor did I think he was the type of player that would gel with our squad. Yes, all our players are flawed, but Sissoko's just don't sit well with me. In ways I do see the merit of his acquisition, but just not for that amount of money (even in today's crazy money transfer market).

What I will say is that I'm willing to give him a chance, and will put my hands up and fully admit that I got it wrong if he's doing fuck all come the end of the season. Unlike some others on here, I'm not too proud to say that I was wrong, nor too stubborn to admit defeat. It irritates the fuck out of me, particularly when you see posters acting like this against players who have proved their worth (Lamela being a prime example), just because they want to be right all the time. I don't want to be that kind of **** (happy to be a **** in many other ways :D).

I sincerely hope Sissoko proves me to be a fool.
