What's new

Poch needs to take a long hard look at himself.

That excuse is a disgrace coming from him. He wanted Wanyama, Janssen and Sissoko. He got them. He spent close to £60m on them, FFS.

Wanyama I can see

I don't think he was acted the other two and don't think he chose Nokando

The sad thing is i wasnt even that shocked by this performance.
You could see it coming a mile off we have not had a convincing display since city :(

Op. Not sure its all down to poch mate
Far too many players in spurs shirts not putting in a shift but the buck always has to stop with the manager its he's job so he needs to sort it and a tad sharpish really.
Good post though thought provoking without being knee jerk

It's almost like we lost a game of football tonight?

Jesus wept, it wasn't pretty tonight and it hasn't been great in the Champions League but why was our previous effort in the CL so amazing? Because it was so totally unexpected, because we punched a LONG way above our weight!

This season we've looked what we are - a young team with a lack of experience at this level. This need from some fans to chuck it all away and start again when it's not going smoothly is mental. Don't get me wrong I'm as fucked off as anyone about the way that we've played recently. I'm a ST holder and bought all 3 tickets for Wembley so I feel as much pain as anyone BUT it's a learning process for everyone at the club at the moment.

We knew when we appointed Poch that he'd never managed at this level, that he was relatively new as a coach, that he would "learn on the job". that's what we are seeing here - it's grim but we are Spurs, a top 6 club - NOT Borrusia Dortmund whatever some on here might think.

I appreciate the discussion and your opinion also your compliment, I agree with you, the players need to look at themselves as well but like you say, the buck stops with the manager, if he isn't motivating them then you have to worry about why that is the case.

I mean look how it ended for Jose at Chelsea, same team now, different side however, I feel like with a manager like Poch it only takes a few doubts and the whole deck comes falling down.

The players he's bought in this summer (or Levy's bought in) aren't good enough. Squad players. Then he's needlessly tinkered with a line up that performed so well last season. Dier is the glue that holds everything together in midfield.

Agree with some, but not all of that. Just going back to last seasons team is pointless if we don't find the energy and rediscover our pressing game. I keep saying it, but our build up play from the supposed best team ever (as anointed by SC 2016) and use of the ball was turgid for big chunks of 90 mins last season. Dier and Dembele were solid but not actually offering a huge amount with the ball, and when the going got tough and we needed outlets they often hid (go back and watch Dembele tonight for prime examples of this).

What we had though was energy and desire and would our work teams, we'd keep battering on the door until the breakthrough came. We also had attacking players who, despite having quite erratic all round games, had enough form and confidence to come up with moments to turn a game.

We need the energy and pressing game back firstly, but we also need to desperately work on our attacking structures and playing the ball out from the back. It wasn't great last year, this year we're stuck in an endless cycle of shuffling the ball across the back line.

I don't read it the way you do. They are constructive critiques from passionate fans, and our opinions matters.

To be fair I have always had some concerns with Poch, when we signed him my biggest concerns were the fact he was known to not be very good at signing players, not be very good with subs and also have favourites he would not drop and be tactically rigid, his biggest point was the fact his pressing game was so good which led to nice attacking football, I figured the rest would be adapted as we went forward as a club, his first season here was above average in terms of expectations after Sherwood quite frankly, we looked good and like a team on the up, his second season obviously was tremendous, we punched well above our weight and the team spirit and press was evident, the flaws remained but the performances frankly hid most of them, then we had that Newcastle result and the run in which I thought was a blip, players feeling dejected because we missed out on the league and nothing to worry about, however...

This season the pressing game is completely gone, the one time we implemented it was against City and we looked fantastic that day, without the press all these flaws of Poch become far more apparent, the players don't seem to be playing as hard as they were last season, tactically we are all over the place, changing something that worked well for a system that ENHANCES the flaws, our purchases in the summer were laughable, Sissoko was just, I can't put into word how stupid that signing is, however my stance previous was that Poch is young and he will learn to adapt and improve these things, now however my concern after watching us this season is not only are these flaws more apparent but he actually seems to be doubling down on them rather than trying to improve, that sign of stubbornness is never a good sign and is actually making us regress, despite the fact we are unbeaten and on the surface seem like we are doing well.

I think we are currently in a false position and I think we are one league loss away from either getting a massive kick up the ass and seeing our form turn around and getting that swagger back and Poch changing things back to how they were because we aren't protecting this unbeaten thing anymore or one league loss away from going into a complete meltdown, I don't think there will be a middle ground in this situation.

I think the Chelsea game is going to make or break our season this weekend and more importantly, Poch's future.
Over reaction. Why on earth should sats
Effect pochs future? Crazy

Leicester have qualified for the last 16, top of their group in a much harder group might I add, we had enough to qualify from this group even if it meant finishing second, we haven't been good enough and the majority of that blame is laying at the managers feet.

He specifically asked for Sissoko anjd he himself scouted Janssen.

Liar

Nah look when you're desperate for a fuck you get your beer goggles on and at times fuck a girl you wish you hadn't but you did because she had her legs spread.

Poch was desperate so he went for Sissoko when it was 11pm on 31 August.

I think he didn't get batshuyai and isco who both would have cost similarly to the money spent on Janssen and Sissoko.

All our injuries have had a huge effect on us this season but yeah Pochs useless, get rid

Let's get the next one in. Great idea

He's hopeless managing in his 1st season in the CL trying to juggle the league with an ok squad ravaged by injuries

It's this obsession with blame that upsets me.

Leicester can play their first 11 for this because the league has gone for them. There is also zero pressure on them - if they get out of the group great - if they don't then they are just little old Leicester so it was always a huge ask.We are expected (by pundits and lots of our fanbase) to beat anyone other than the top 5 or 6 teams in the world because we are Spurs!

Poch is trying to use the squad and today it just didn't work out. However, if he flogs the core 11 to death, many would be calling for his head in a couple of months when we are losing games due to fatigue!

He's done a typical spurs. Rest players for huge game so can win the next huge game. End up losing them both and it being a complete nightmare
