well that's what i'm asking in my comment
Exactly, you don't know yet the timing is 'interesting'?

You have to assume there's occasionally some sort of a delay between the info being fact and it then getting from source to source. I would suggest the further out of the actual transfer window, the longer between conversations.

Poch did get the players he wanted in summer right? So does he want anyone?

There is no secret there were other players higher on the list than the ones we got. The ones we did get were on that list though, so were players the manager had identified as fitting what he wanted to do.

This is where the challenge lies. Respecting the wage management our policy imho is becoming dated, and not working (DANIEL negotiation style) the way it use to. Earmarking potential signings that comes with bigger risks than established; N'Jie being a great example, becomes a costly gamble that can back fire. The level we need to maintain (Top 4) requires a rethink.

15k a week puts things in perspective but put a 6 in front of that 15 and you make 99% of the world go "yep this world is fucked".

Don't want to be a anti-free market capitalist, but Tevez just became the uber uber 1% in Argentina. Probably makes more in one week then a whole flavela in Rio makes in a decade. (I understand Rio is not in Argentina I just don't know what their hoods are called in Buenos Aires)

The separation between rich and poor is just mind boggling. I know we all play a role in the worlds rat race, but when people that seemingly add very little real world value to society, but still get paid absurd amounts is just wrong. Give one weeks wages to a district of schools in your hometown Tevez. Use that money to impact something and make it be known you are doing it!

Not saying these guys are bad people for taking the money, but the system is broken when a teacher in the inner city of Chicago has to wear a bullet proof vest and Dwayne Wade gets 20m a year to play 82 games and train. Don't get me wrong, Dwayne does a lot of good, but again the system is fucked.

Rant over

Agree in principle but not sure why people only seem to get up in arms about sportspeople earning big money. At least they have to work hard to earn it.

Johnny Depp earned $55M for Pirates of the Caribbean 5. Which was 8 weeks work. So a million dollars a day. That's before back end, which given the movie made over $400M at the box office, will result in the best part of another $50M for Depp. So $100M for 8 weeks of an unconvincing gay Keith Richards impression.

There is not an infinite pot of money that allows us to acquiesce to the wage demands of all and sundry for so many reasons. The big three are White Hart Lane does not generate the income, NLDP has to be paid for and the fact that if we let go of the reigns it won't be one player on £200k and the rest being ok with it, there'll be a long line of agents outside Daniel's door demanding more money and threatening to agitate for a move.

It pains me to say it but there is also the fact that we are not a top four club, one year in six does not give us the right to call ourselves top four.

Actually three top four finishes in the past seven seasons is not too shabby !

There is no other strategy other than spending more money on wages and transfer fees - which we haven't got while we're building a £400m stadium. It's been stated numerous times by Poch and Levy that during this period we will have to be creative with out transfer business - so that will mean more gambles like Njie, Alli, GKN until the stadium is completed and we have more funds for wages.

Appreciate your kind response. It is a acute balancing act. If you look on our main acquisition (gamble), and put Clint into that, who by all accounts could return after failing thus far. To me it becomes costly and difficult to shift. There needs to be a balance on wages; agreed. It's a tricky one.

Thanks for putting this out there again Trix!

The idea that Sissoko was anywhere on our list just makes my blood boil. This is how I imagine a list

Pleaaaaaaase, pretty please, oh nevermind let me dream

Bale
James
Rues
...

Ok, we have a chance here. Come to papa and ignore that oil company masquerading as a football club

Isco
Michy
...

You would cream to be here. Signed sealed delivered for a proven commodity

Wanyama
Son

Let's gamble and hope we hit the jackpot. Glimpses of a nipple so let's see if there is an A cup or a D cup under there.

NJie
GKN

Shhhhhhhiiiiiit we need bodies. Seriously though, any mass of skin will do.

Stambouli
Sissoko
Vlad
Fazio
...

dont tsee the problem though. people always complain about the top talents earning big bucks, but obviously they can draw more than they are paid. if you could then you deserve that kind of money.

Agree with that but find it strange that talent spotters like Mitchell and Broomfield have left the club during such a difficult time for recruitment.

Not really ITK but hopefully an interesting mini read.

I was in Starbucks in Spitafields earlier and was listening into a conversation between two parents and what I can only describe as a pre-agent. It was quite interesting regardless of how true it all is.

This guys firm is new/growing and aims to get kids in the 16-18 bracket into academies around London - they then get a fee of first contracts signed etc. The parents were from Essex and guess were meeting this chap via Liverpool St station. His firm have contacts with the London clubs who can arrange trial days (with the view of being taken on) and also enter specified teams in mini tournaments while inviting scouts. I guess it's the fall back option if you didn't get a pro contract at your club and/or want a final chance of making it pro.

Anyway, the sales rhetoric was interesting. Last year 75% of his recruits went into lower league academies which at minimum leads to a perm contract in the Conference. 15% go into the Champ and tend to stay there and 10% make it to the prem. Those who make to the prem at least have a prem club on cv even if they fall down to the lower leagues which tends to help.

The parents obviously were like, "well he supports Chelsea and he's good enough so....". The Pre-agent stated that London wise it's Palace and even Arsenal who have taken people recently but Chelsea is off limits due to the extension World Wide system they have. I.E. they don't need more kids and tend to pay hefty contracts to secure the best. Someone who's not made it else where will not be considered. Alternatively spurs is a no-go because a) the club believe in a philosophy which is instilled pre- U21 therefore outsiders have a very slim chance of coming in and b)we have the pick of the area due to our new training complex which means we are skimming the cream off the top (unless massive wages take them to Chelsea).

While I can vouch for myself hearing this first hand I can't vouch for an agency which has to operate out of the first floor of a starbucks. Although he did have some very shiny print outs.

Essex kids supporting Chelsea is so wrong... it's almost as bad as a human being supporting West Ham

All true but Spurs are more pre U15-16.
