Verts had a funny game IMO. He was brilliant going forward, the Verts of old. But his defending left a lot to be desired with that slip and some very poor passes to the opposition in the 1st half.

Dele Alli had his typical game today. Didnt play particularly well, but made 1 assist and a beautiful touch for the goal. Its hard to not play him if he continues to produce these vital contributions deapite his rather weak all-round play. Carry on Dele.

Special mention to Winks. Only had less than 15 minutes but that exquisite pass was THE play of the day. The awareness, the weight and speed of the pass. Brilliant.

That's harsh. He didn't mean to slip over and that's all I remember him doing wrong. Top class performance keeping lukaku in his pocket except on that slip

He seemed to press very well today though, he doesn't always so was good to see.

Dominated most of the game with one of our better pressing performances in a long while. As most have said the scoreline doesn't tell the story.

Attack: Dele draws a great number of fouls for us and had the knack for being in the right place. Not his best performance but again his goal was vital. Kane is Kane and this streak can continue we are safely in the top 4. Eriksen keeps us ticking, but corners are leaving me scratching my head.

Midfield: Completely shut down their midfield which was the key to the game. Barkley finally figured it out and that was too late in the game. Wanyama was the standout and still for me Dembele is pretty bad going forward. His efforts defensively are now were his strength is, but for me he just lacks so much going forward that I still think Winks is the better option next to Vic. Winks displayed his playmaking ability once again and also provided great hustle in his guest appearance.

Defense: Hugo didn't put us under pressure with his distribution which for me means he had a good game. Maybe could have stopped Lukaku's goal, but that's in the past. Verts is beast and despite his slip he was the best CB tonight. Toby was steady as usual and I hope he can remain healthy. Dier had his best game in awhile I felt. He never looked shaken and was far more confident. Davies had his best game and a lot of that goes down to Everton which allowed the left to be the flank we attacked down. He could have done more with his crosses, but very happy with his performance. Walker was steady Walker and that is fine by me.

Poch: Lit a fire under his boys and the responded. The Koe/Poch matchup has been one of my favorites these past couple years and Poch got this one.

Agree that his attacking play wasn't great today (standard telling tangible goal contribution aside, haha!), but I think he worked very hard defending from the front and was really leading our pressing game very well indeed.

If Jan hadn't fallen over for 2-1 it would've been the perfect LCB perforamance. Aside from that he was magnificent defensively and threatening going forward when he got the chance.

Kane MOTM is fairly unquestionable though.

Very solid team performance. As others have said, a special mention to Davies who in the last couple of games has shown that he can indeed do a good job as a wing back. Vertonghen, as @yusisafri said , had a curate's egg of a game, some excellent moments coming forward but some loose passes and of course the slip for Lukaku's goal.

Deli To be honest was not great but of course he did supply an assist and a nicely taken goal. So what can you say ?

I'm not crazy about the habitual Winks for Dembele substitution. I don't think it's a coincidence that we have conceded against Gent and today when we were in control in both matches . I'm all in favour of Winks getting time on the pitch ( and his free kick was delightful ) but I'd like to see him on together with Dembele and Wanyama in situations like today when we want to be solid for the last 20 minutes. Let Eriksen or Dele have a rest from time to time and leave Sissoko on the bench.

Should if been about 4-1. Massively flattering on them which was a bit irritating, but a great win that puts us in a really good position to strengthen our chances of finishing in the top 4.

Davies was very good, Kane obviously. Jan was great until the slip.

The noticeable thing for me though was when Dembele went off. Our grip in the middle was relinquished.

Overall though we played well today against a team that came to sit deep and frustrate like most teams outside the top 6/7 do at WHL.

Some really nice combination play at times. Davies was so involved, and Vertonghen driving forward was great to see, so graceful looking when he's gliding forward like that.

Two great finishes for Harry earns him another MOTM though and was unlucky not to have another hatrick.

I thought this was probably Davies' best game for us in that he actually adapted really well to the wb position. Winks will own the CM position next season- every game he looks more at home

He doesn't get the credit he deserves. Yes he didn't hold it up well on a few occasions and all you here is this fucking phrase bumbling about. Does my head in.

His pressing, endeavour and movement off the ball was great. Overall he did have a good game for me capped off with a great goal that typifies the off the ball movement I'm talking about.

I can see the headlines now;

Ben Davies in good players look better after run of games shocker
:p

A totally dominant performance where we seemed to find it too easy and relaxed a tad.

Standouts were Jan,Toby, Davies, Vic and moose oh and Kane weren't bad either ;)

Special mention to winks for that delightfully weighted and timed pass for Alli to deftly finish. And janssen for battling and winning a couple of free kicks One that got us the third goal and one that killed the game at the end.

Kudos to Davies. Shows what having a proper run in a side can do.

Good performance overall - gave ourselves an unnecessarily uncomfortable last 10 mins but we looked in control for the bulk of the game.
