I completely disagree with that. Dier is a positional player, he marks space until someone enters that space. Wanyama chases players down. You'll see him involved in the press much more than Dier.

The problem is not who takes the man-marking role (if we go that route), it's who takes the second midfield role. The way I see it, we'd have to play Dier screening, and Wanyama man-marking, which means Dembele misses out.

Only one person to do the man marking role and that's Walker. I don't think we need to go down the man marking route

Whatever happens this season, we've properly put the shits into Chelsea fans who thought they were home and dry only a few weeks ago.

Be amazing if we were able to turn it around but still feels like we might need a miracle. Bloody proud again though.

I don't think Verts would mind playing LB for this one game.

I can see the argument both ways here, but I think I'd go 3-4-2-1 and back to the obvious line up.

Harsh on Son, but think this makes us equally strong defensively and powerful going forward.

That said Son's pace and direct running could really cause them problems if we were to try it. The only way to do it though is to stick 4-2-3-1 and if we do that, we have to play Dier and Dembele, and I'm not sure Poch will leave Big Vic out of this game, and rightly so.

Doing something novel like this in a game like this is pure Kevin Keegan territory. Always whiffs of confusion, rarely works, rarely necessary, over-complicates something that needn't be complicated, disrupts normal routine. Absolutely no to any messing around like this for me.

Chelsea struggled with United's pace up front on the weekend, so it may be worth keeping Son in the side. No idea who you drop, though.

Chelsea did struggle big time vs. United 4-2-3-1 formation. Then we just need Dier to closely mark Hazard all game like Herrera.

Still think we will go 3-4-2-1 because we dominated Chelsea earlier with that formation.

But it does give Poch something to think about.

Lloris
Dier - Alderweireld - Vertonghen
Walker - Wanyama - Dembele - Rose/Davies
Eriksen - Alli
Kane

Subs: Pau, Wimmer, Trippier, Sissoko, Son, Nkoudou, Janssen

Yep agreed, this is how we will start.

It's not harsh on Son to be honest because that's the issue all good teams have with quality players. He know's he has the managers full confidence and he will be just wanting to make a difference from the bench.

The brilliant man management Poch has, means that all the players will be right behind any decision he makes, they will 'tow the line' and do whatever is best for the team. Long may that continue.

So who will take the penalties?
1. Kane
2. Son
3. Alli
4. Dier
5. Walker

Very good point. I hope we are practicing them in training. My one gripe about Poch is that for a coach who plans to such detail, he tends to let the players fight it out on the pitch regarding who takes it when Kane is unavailable.

As a result, we've had Lamela miss one vs City and Alli's pen vs Saints wasn't totally convincing in that it wasn't near the corner and wasn't particularly well struck but he sent the keeper the wrong way.

We lost the cup final vs UTD recently because they had studied our pens and clearly practiced theirs. It's not a small detail in a cup final as these two sides are quite evenly matched.

Eric Dier will almost certainly start this game. I really would be staggered if he didn't. Poch loves him.

The right choice is going 4231with die dropping out for wanyama allowing son to play. Id feel so bad for erik though he will be devestated and il be sad for him but its the right choice. We need to keep a player on hazards toes and stop him.

I still not entirely sure which system to play i love the 343 as it protects davies more but i feel son needs to play.

Actually think the 3-4-3 exposes Davies' lack of pace more. As long as Rose is out, think we will keep the 4-2-3-1 as Son helps provide the width on the left. The only call for me is Dier or Wanyama but I think I would go with Dier right now because of how he seamlessly drops to cover the FBs runs when we play with 4 at the back.

Agree. He is the one player who really enables us to change formation at will which is what opponents have struggled most with. Probably means Son starts on the bench but we still have plenty going forward and are very compact at the back.

Wanyama following hazard all over the pitch will not work unless you have 3 in the middle so people need to get that idea off their minds

I would make 1 change - Dier out, Wanyama in

Then bring in Dier against Palace
