Same team as the one we used in our 2-0 win at home. Wanyama and Dembele may be the only way to win our midfield battle vs Matic and Kante, Dier wouldn't be ale to deal with them in midfield.

That simply isn't true.

Wanyama's closer in style to Herrera, in my opinion. Dier likes to hold that pivot position in front of the CBs, whereas Wanyama likes the seek and destroy role, which is what Herrera did yesterday.
I disagree. Wanyama patrols that position in front of the defence, breaking up and destroying. Herrera yesterday played as a man marker and Dier is by far our player most suited to that role.

It's a dilemma for sure on the left without Rose. Agree with you re Son, but if you include Dier, presume you're dropping Wanyama. Vic took Kante out of the game last match. Stopped his surging runs through the middle, and even harried him when Kante was doing his defensive duties of trying to cut off our supply lines. Devil's choice, but I'd drop Dier.

Wont argue. It's a difficult choice and wouldn't be disappointed if wanyama starts.

Spot on...and thats why Poch will play 4-2-3-1 imo

This game Dier will be sacrificed for the beast Wanyama who will be all over the rent boys.

Man U gave their defence major problems with Rashfords pace getting in behind them, it would be madness to drop Son , so Poch will have no option but to play 4-2-3-1 and i predict Dier will sit out.even though he has done nothing wrong, but Wanyama is a must for this one.

I do acknowledge we beat them earlier in the season playing with 3-5-1 but things have changed since then, Son's form and Rose absence.

Hugo

Walker Toby Jan Davies

Dembele Wanyama

Eriksen Dele Son

Kane

We got done at Stamford Bridge because we had Wimmer as a left back and we didn't do a good job of nullifying Pedro, Hazard and their wingbacks. I think our form is much better than it was back then and would be confident whichever system we play.

The right choice is going 4231with die dropping out for wanyama allowing son to play. Id feel so bad for erik though he will be devestated and il be sad for him but its the right choice. We need to keep a player on hazards toes and stop him.

I still not entirely sure which system to play i love the 343 as it protects davies more but i feel son needs to play.

Some one suggested last week to play a team of dispensable cloggers in the semi. I assume target Costa and Hazzard job done

I completely disagree with that. Dier is a positional player, he marks space until someone enters that space. Wanyama chases players down. You'll see him involved in the press much more than Dier.

The problem is not who takes the man-marking role (if we go that route), it's who takes the second midfield role. The way I see it, we'd have to play Dier screening, and Wanyama man-marking, which means Dembele misses out.

The biggest single difference could be that Mourinho just exposed to everyone else, how to shut down Chelsea. Man mark Hazard. Lesser teams might try this and limit Chelsea's attacking threat and play for draws. I hope so. We could even try the same approach in the FA cup semi final by putting Walker on Hazard all game. As Rose won't be back on time, we line up 343, but really we play as 423 with Walker in a free role; man marking Hazard for most of the game:
Line up:
Lloris
Dier Toby Verts
Walker Wanyama Dembele Davies
Eriksen Alli
Kane
Actually play 423 with Walker man marking Hazard wherever he goes and bring on Son later in the game in the front three:
Lloris
Dier Toby Verts Davies
Wanyama Dembele
Eriksen Kane Alli

Really don't think it is easy as to say Man Mark hazard out of the game. That happened yesterday, but Hazzard was also very poor. Yes you have to stick right to him, but I wouldn't change our game plan for him because Utd did. I imagine hazard will be more free roaming against us

I think dier is better suited in midfield this game than wanyama but we need him at cb...gotta go three at the back for me

When does Dier ever get dropped? I'm probably wrong here but it seems like Poch always finds a way to incorporate him into the team. If we play 4-2-3-1 I think it's equally likely that Wanyama gets dropped as it is that Dier gets dropped. I think we'll probably go with the 3-4-2-1 at the expense of Son.

The 2 choices we have is whether we go out to try and nullify.

So, 3 at the back drop Son and play Wanyama.

Or we say fuck these chumps, we're flying, son is scoring for fun, to dare is to do and all that. And drop Wanyama. 4 2 3 1.

I don't think he'll risk Wanyama in a 4231. Simply because Dier drops in to form 3 at the back to get our fullbacks forward. Just can't see him dropping Dier at all.

I'm really not sure. I think Chelsea will be thinking we'll be doing 3 at the back as that'd let us man mark hazard and that's how united did them... Which is perhaps why we shouldn't.

Courtois out according to the daily mirror

Haha, the mind games start.

Guardian saying he's confident he'll be fit - apparently just tweaked his ankle doing a basketball ad for the club's US promo. Alonso only had a bug too.

So expect Chelsea full strength, basically.
