Sorry, but when you put up blanket statements like.....

" they are there by definition for players to move clubs"
"Agents don't make money unless players move"
"So day after day they're in the player's ear talking about how much they can earn elsewhere"

Patronising or not that is complete and utter BS mate.

Like I said I don't know which agents you have had dealings with in the past but I'd forget pretty much everything they have told you because it is not how the vast majority of agents work at all.

You're right, I should've said 'some agents'. Incidentally the 2 agents that I know quite well, are the 2 used most by DL. And this is what they said to me about 'bad' agents.

And there is no agent alive who isn't very enthusiastic about their client moving for £100M and trebling his salary.

Was Pogba moving to United a good career move for him? No, it was awful. But his agent drove the whole thing and made a fortune.

He can't really say anything else plus he needs to keep them all focused:

#thfc Poch asked to guarantee if Alli will stay: "I cannot guarantee anything in life. The most important is to try to enjoy the present."

Poch: "We must be focussed on the present. Don't think of the holidays, don't think of the rumours, don't think what'll happen next season."

Edit: seems there might have been some misquoting going on:

Alasdair Gold: Should be pointed out that when asked about Dele & Poch said 'you can't guarantee anything in life', he was using context of Ugo's death.

People need to realize that good players will attract the bigger clubs who can offer alot more money. Especially when the club is in desperate need of English homegrown players. City will offer Alli, Rose, and Walker a ton of money in hopes of enticing them to go. We need to hold on to them. A well liked manager and the hopes of trophies wont be enough. We need to give them better contracts as well. The problem is, we cant match what a club like City can pay. We just have to hope an improved contract will be enough.

It shows that the rules on FFP must be looked at if we cannot match what City pay in the long run. City do not have an international fanbase and we will soon be in a larger stadium with higher ticket prices as well as a squd with lower wages on average. Also, we will be looking to compete in the CL next season, whereas I believe it is quite likely that they will not be in the CL.

As an aside, which teams do we want to qualify for CL?

It's true though Poch can't guarantee anything 100%, with the sums of money that the elite will throw around this summer anyone's head can be turned.

For me its Chelsea, Man City and Man United - those clubs are going to spend money and attract players even if they are not in CL. If Arsenal and Liverpool miss out - that will hurt both teams more.

Solid logic but there was talk of it being CL or bust in their chase for Griezmann for example. However if Utd get in it does avoid there being 5 PL teams in there next season, and therefore 2 key rivals dealing with the Europa.

Yeah - let's be brutal and honest - Spurs a much bigger club than City.

We have more fans and a better stadium (from next year, we will play at Wembley).

City and Chelsea are shitc@nt clubs who would Undoubtedly no way get out players without ££ owners

Club said Bale won't be sold and he was sold in subsequent weeks. So, words don't mean anything and there are no guarentees. So, when Poch says he cannot guarentee, I guess thats the reality.

If we get a 100m+ bid and If we cannot convince Dele to stay, then we will sell him. If we sell, Club gets 1/8th of the stadium cost through Dele sale. They may reinvest like Bale sale or use it for stadium and reduce the loan interest.

Or on other hand, Levy sees the value in keeping Dele with naming rights discussions on going and give him record contract and appease the player & the sponsors.

Both scenarios are realistic. But what we cannot do is dwell on these rumors and get bothered by it.

As long as Poch stays, every single player (bar Kane) is replacable. Don't get me wrong - Alli is an incredible young player - one of a kind. We wont replace him directly but could replace him with a combination of players with complimentary skill sets. But key is Poch. Poch stays - I don't care if Dele wants to leave or not.

We should be thinking more about the kind of players we can attract rather than who might be sold. The position we're in now doesn't compare to any previous seasons.

I think Dele is prob the most marketable player we have ever had.

This....Dele earns more from Nike than from Spurs at the moment. This is one of the reasons, Levy will try to keep him inspite of mouth watering world record bids. With a stadium naming rights discussions going on, he needs star players at the club.
