I went to school in Catford, I was the only Spurs fan in a massively Arsenal favoured student-base. I never mouthed off or anything like that, but received a load of shit every time we lost. Everyone at school used to talk about how much they hated Spurs and how scummy the club is.

I think it was just because there was only one of me and I could only knock out so many of them.

I went to school in Sidcup, and it wasn't quite as bad, in that there were a fair few Spurs fans around, but it was in the 90's, and we were utterly shit, so we never had any ammunition to fire back with. I seem to have evolved the Arsenal and Chelsea supporters out of my group of friends over the years, my five a side WhatsApp group has like 18 blokes in and the football banter is almost non-existent. I think a lot of people realise these days as well that gloating just makes you look like a right ****.

It's probably been said by someone else (I've only read the first page), but I think a lot of it at the moment is that it's not as easy to dismiss us as it is Chelsea, City or United.

What I mean is that, personally, I'd far rather see City win the league (if not us) than Leicester or Everton or Southampton as as a fan I can choose to be believe that their success is fake and irrelevant. I think fans of other teams have a similar view, so the prospect of us crashing the party having "done things properly" rouses jealousy in people who think "why isn't that us?"

I agree somewhat...

I don't think we act up or boast at all about not winning things...so that's nonsense for a start.

Firstly it is about proximity... West Ham haste us for a number of reasons:

Firstly, of the three other London PL teams, Chelsea and Arsenal have general been on a different planet to them, we have just been better than them so it is a comparable.

Second, they are supported by white working class racist types. Brexit voters and xenophobes who have always hated Jews. Given Tottenham's historical association with North London's Jewish community it is hardly surprising that they hate us.

Finally we are the closest PL team to them by proximity.

Arsenal is a traditional local rivalry.

Chelsea hate us for the same reason West Ham do, again it's traditional anti-semitism in the main, coupled with the fact Arsenal, until the last decade have mostly been far better than them.

Given the amount of hate we get from opposing fans, I think it's fine for us to bite back.

Our fanbase have had the great double side rammed down our throats by our dads & grandads for years and years so this makes us a bit prickly

We still think we're a massive club but our trophy cabinet doesn't agree nor would most oppo supporters

La la la la your shit...

We're coming for you..

These type of songs when we've won fuck all since god was a boy don't help

Antisemitism is clearly a factor. Would be interesting to know how Tottenham were viewed around the time of Moseley and the black shirts
A hatred of Jews is a funny old thing and lots of folk have a bit of that in them which is magnified when it comes to footy

There are as many Scum Jewish supporters as Tottenham but we were always the club that were known to be 'the yids' (not sure what relevance if any this has!)

We were fancy dans in the 1960's and thought of ourselves as somewhat superior back then so probably became hated by other supporters who then passed that on to their siblings

Chelsea goes back to 1967 when we stuffed them in the FA Cup Final but then snowballed as the NF took off and Tottenham started to own the term Yid

I could probably go on and on but I'm getting bored...

Also we're probably a bit paranoid because as we know a huge amount of people like or love the lillywhites as well

I dont think we are hated by the majority of level headed football fans.
I don't really 'hate' any clubs. I say it but I'm good friends with Arsenal, Chelsea, West Ham fans and others.
Its only football and hate is too strong a word. I say I hate Arsenal and Chelsea but its more of a dislike really. I wouldn't stop talking to someone because they support another club. We're all football fans first and foremost and every club has a number of knuckle dragging fktard fans who take it too far. As much as I dislike Arsenal I actually respect the way they are run and the way they built up the club. Compared to Chelsea and City they're saints. Money bags man U arents much better. But thats the club not the fans.
And I find most fans on TS talk utter shite regardless of club they support.
I think you can dislike a club because of how they play as well. The way Chelsea under Maureen used to just strangle the game was disgusting given the finance at their disposal.
I don't think any sensible football fan would watch us play and not enjoy or appreciate it, other than obvious rivals. Also probably appreciate how we've gone about it as well.

If not then fk 'em :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I used to go to home and away games in the early 80's, and not sure if every club was the same, but I do not remember 1 away game that we never started trouble inside their stadium.

there was also rucks on the way to the games at service stations that were definitely not planed, as a lot of the time it would be against lower league teams supporters.

I was listening to talksport on saturday night while working, and they had this topic on the show. a Man C fan came on and he said his hate came from the response he got off our fans after we beat them in the replay. he said they congratulated some Spurs fans and got full on abuse back.

with Arsenal it's been hatred since the they moved so close then robbed us of our place in the league

Chelsea the 67 final, sending them down in 75, and being a match which never went on, without fans clashing

Wet Spam when in the same division we are their nearest rivals, like Chelsea never passes without something happening between the fans of both clubs. we are their cup final, the 1st fixture they look for when they come out. they hate us because they couldn't even dominate us in the table even when we have been shit, plus their fans = RACIST same with Chelsea

like many have said many of our fans are like Liverpool fans, we think we are a big club because of our history, and give it "we're going to do this, we're going to do that", but fall flat on our faces too often. the thing is with Liverpool is they just go that extra mile in their praise, and when you argue with them they throw the 5 fingers up.

I'm also a Sidcup school boy, Sadly tho, I was just about the only spurs fan in my year. Probably the school. Loads of Arsenal scum and Manchester United glory hunters, mixed in with your typical plastic Millwall fans. I was at Cleeve Park, How bout yourself?

I'm not sure if other teams fans hate us for this, but personally this is something I find embarrassing. The mental gymnastics that some people employ in insisting we have been better than Chelsea this season, and - worse! - better than Leicester last season when we finished 3rd [behind Arsenal, who no one wants to admit were better in the league than us last season, as horrible and painful as that admission is to make] baffles me.

Don't get why some people can't just enjoy the best Spurs team many of us have ever seen without having to puff up our chests even further and make it seem like we've achieved more than we have. Where we are right now is utterly fantastic, but we're not top of the tree yet and we shouldn't start twisting reality to claim that moral victories are actual victories.

I honestly believe the "we are the best team" for the last 2 seasons comes from the way we have played with having to play a lot more fixtures than the 2 teams that have both finished above us. both Leicester and Chelsea have done whats needed, won more games and gained more points, but most of their football hasn't been as pretty to watch, unfortunately it's been more effective

It still feels all kinds of RAWK-y to me. For starters, your post above doesn't mention that Arsenal finished above us last season, and they played an equal number of competitive games to us (53 vs 53; actually 53 Us vs 54 Them if you count the Community Shield). But plenty of people - and here I'm referring to plenty of people on SC rather than you in particular, Lighty - talk us up like we were better than Arsenal in 2015/16, which we just simply weren't... let alone being better than Leicester last year.

I'm absolutely loving where we are right now (it's way, WAY better than I have seen during my time watching Spurs, and loads better than I expected we would do in both summer 2015 and summer 2016), but IMO people should lay off the, "Well, if you take all these mitigating factors into account, we are the best!" comments and just enjoy the fact that we're doing as well as we are, even with the extra hurdles that we face compared to our rivals (by far the biggest of which is that we're the 6th richest club in the league). But we're not the best yet, as history will remember.

To answer your initial question I don't really think we are.

We're a London team who happen to have a number of rivals and we've prettt much consistently been in the top division and usually the top half of it but often have flattered to decive. People like to mock teams like that because if you're a fan of a bigger team you think our fans are arrogant and if you're a fan of a smaller team you're probably a bit jealous as we're the next level up but an easy target as we often fail to deliver.

Otherwise I don't think that many clubs 'hate' us. I'd say most football fans 'hate' Chelsea n.o1 due to their success they've bought and the c*** players managers and fans they have and have had, man.utd 2nd due to their dominance, Liverpool 3rd due to their success and fan arrogance, lots of fans laugh at Arsenal but don't really hate them, were mabye up their next to man.city who many fans also dislike due to they buying the league,so really fans generally dislike the better teams. Fine by me as long as we're playing well and winning I couldn't give a ****
