I really hope that when the window closes the ITK spill the beans on what actually happened with some of these mysterious deals... although I'm not sure whether that will make me feel better or worse, I suppose the next half an hour will tell

Pleat dropping the bomb on 5 Live:

Someone suggested Barkley's agent could have wanted a piece of the £35m.

Pleat then said, very deliberately, "OR another club could have had a word in his agent's ear and said that we will match whatever Chelsea offer in January".

Everyone else ignored it and kept speculating, but Pleat often drops these inside gems, he obviously knows what goes on at Spurs, and by all accounts has Levy's ear.

Makes sense really. Barkley will be cheaper in January and Everton will be paying his wages while he recuperates from his injury.

Everton agreed a fee, Barkley agreed personal terms, Barkley finished his Chelsea medical, and then his agent called off the deal.

If he does end up coming to us (January or summer 18), he should be welcomed as a hero. He just reversed Willian'd Chelsea.
The reverse Willian. I love him just for making that a thing. Even if he doesn't join us, we'll always have that.

Moshiri is just trashing Barkley. No. 10 position is "congested" and it will not be easy for Barkley to break into the squad. Ends with "he needs to play."

I hope that's the reason. Does he still come if we're no doing as well as we'd like in Jan? Not so sure.

Risky move this. Not seeing too many other creative options at that price around.

Generally a positive window but attacking mid was probably the area we needed to strengthen most and we haven't.
did we miss a trick with Drinkwater

If we weren't willing to pay what Everton wanted now and they didn't lower price enough then why would we then pay what Everton want in January? They'll still be asking for a sum that will make Levy think well in 5 months we can have him for free. This idea that Everton would drop price enough that we felt worthwhile price didn't happen this window and won't in Jan. Either we get him on a free next year or not at all in my opinion.
at least in Jan he would be able to play, Levy was never going to pay for a player to sit on a treatment table for 3 months.

That pacey winger must have been made to run to Hotspur Way to prove his pace. He obviously didn't make it over the Channel... I'm sure we'll know more once our ITKs get on here to fill us in.

I just don't get the logic by Everton at all surely you would just accept a 25 million or so bid now unless we have never bid?

He's only going to lose value now I actually feel sorry for Barkley in all of this he's probably lost his place in the World Cup squad and been in limbo all summer.
