Rumour has it that the journalist did seek to do some research and inquire after the facts, but nobody was around to answer the phone.

Apparently, no-one expected the Spanish inquisition. :cautious:

It's the same thing. If Black Tigers Ball Club is knowingly hated because of the skin colour of a proportion of the fan base and perceived ties, and a journalist writes "the club is hated because of racism", then has the journo done anything wrong, describing known facts?

We must be vary of getting so sensitive that we react with anger when anybody associates Spurs and Jews. It can sort of indirectly be perceived as discrimination if we become infuriated and aggrieved by association, like it is something wrong to be associated with fans from a religious community. It isn't. WE certainly should not have any overly sensitive emotions, directly or indirectly, deliberate or not, about having Jewish fans. It seems to me that some fans have jumped to conclusions because somebody wrote about this topic. Instantly we just must feel so infuriated. But I guess my question is, what are we actually feeling this anger for?

The only legitimate concern that has been voiced in this thread is whether such a topic might put our travelling fans at risk. I think that's a worthy consideration. But I for one don't think we should kill the messenger in this case.

I have to disagree. There is a difference in my opinion. It may be the same thing is essence, but it wouldn't be treated the same, which is my point. If it was about the colour of someone's skin it wouldn't be touched with a barge pole by the media and would be universally condemned because the rules and conventions around this are very black and white (excuse the pun). Whereas there is a far more liassez-faire attitude to anti-Semitism. Say what you like, even if it's inappropriate, misleading or down right out of order and it can just be fixed with an apology or whatever.

And there's no danger of me being aggrieved by association or having sensitive emotions about having Jewish fans, because I am a Jewish fan (y).

I'd also challenge the notion that Marca are just presenting known facts. It is not a fact that we are hated by rival fans because of our Jewish association. West Ham don't hate us because of the Jewish thing. They hate us because we are the closest club geographically to them that they ever get to play and because they're jealous of us. Chelsea hate us because we are a big rival London Club and there has been a lot of bad blood between the clubs. Arsenal hate us because we are their traditional rivals.

The fact that we are perceived as a Jewish club just means that a minority of racist morons have something else to latch onto.

So I'm not suggesting that Marca are all raving anti-semites, but they have demonstrated they are pig ignorant and irresponsible and the club is right to be pissed off and have called it correctly by labelling it inaccurate and distasteful. It didn't need to be mentioned at all (if we played Barcelona would the local Tottenham Herald talk about Basque separatists when giving a synopsis of Barcelona or the Taliban if we were playing a club from Afghanistan?).

Marca may not be condoning the behaviour of moronic, racist football fans but they are giving credence to the idea that there is something to hate.

Don't think the team will even be aware of an article in a spanish paper.

You may be right. However, if I were Poch (which I'm not!) I would use every possible piece of information in my team motivational talk to get them up for the game and in a positive frame of mind. This post might be a bit out of date now but it's been a bit stormy and we lost our electricity!

What would you say if you were poch?

They hate us for our jewish heritage! Even though none of us have a jewish heritage! Or the club.
Although we would be proud if we did!
Although they are talking about our rivals, not real madrid.
When they are talking about our rivals though, they are talking about a minority of wankers from chelsea and west ham.
Fuck them ****s.
Go get em lads.

That's worthy of a new thread!

What I would get at would be the arrogance of RM and their tatty paper Marca. How they think they are better than everyone else and can tap up, and buy, whoever they want. That they think they can beat us without using some of their best players; that we are inferior to them.

Let's go out and show them what we are about; go out and play our own one touch, quick passing footie; let them run around after us, even if it's around the half way line. Let them do the running around for a while.

The key phrase: "Don't get mad, get even. You get even by playing better than them and scoring goals, not by fouling them. So keep your cool!"
