I get you. A team is all about balance, and Sissoko provides the shitness counter balance that allows us to play the good players.

The guy puts on our shirt and gives effort every game. He may not be the isco that everyone wanted but he is a spurs player and deserves our support.
I have far more respect for him than i do for you.

Sometimes is really not like we have other options.. Winks is injured, Wanyama is coming back to fitness, Dembele just can't finish an entire match.

Playing Dier will have another group calling him to be dropped.

Playing Sissoko is fine, but I just think him playing for an hour is the max. Unless he turns in a really solid performance.

So we might as well try and get behind him. Slagging him off all the time is hardly going to get him to play better.

I’ve never heard any mass booing or people giving him shit at games or are you talking about on here?

I'd much rather have a grafter like Sissoko on the pitch than some of the show ponies we could have brought in. I'll never understand why we bought him but you can never accuse him of lacking effort. He got dogs abuse after the Southampton game but I thought he did OK, and far better than what we could have realistically expected from others. He'll run Newport County into the ground and be a hero for a short while with any luck.

Thing is for people saying he's a grafter, he's not really. Last season he was absolutely lazy and this season he's just putting the bare requirement in. Zokora and Parker were grafters they gave it all on the pitch, he doesn't put in half the effort they did.

I agree with Poch entirely. Clearly, Sissoko's a player we could improve on but until we do he performs an important function for the team. He forces turnovers; he keeps the ball for the most (albeit cumbersomely) and his strength and pace is an asset in transitions. His presence i gives us balance, allowing us to play Son, Alli, Kane and Eriksen and our full backs to push forward.

Precisely what his job is for france, except in a 3 cm formation. He will never become the amr we are calling out for, i dont mind him but im just surprised by the way we used him.

Here twitter wherever. Poch obviously feels the need to defend him so it's not like he and the players are unaware that a lot of fans hate him.

For me there’s a massive difference between giving one of our own players shit on match day and criticising a player on a fan forum.

I’m not sure Poch felt the need to make those comments as a result as what was said on the Sissoko thread on SC but I could be wrong. I think he was just answering a question and doing what any manager should do and defend his player.

We've seen comments from rose about when he signed a new contract that the players are aware and it effects them.

I’m sure some do. Most, I’d wager, don’t take any notice. I’m sure it’s far more noticeable at a game as, you know, It’s at their place of work. If players want to trawl through threads online then they should do so at their own risk and should do so with thick skin.

What would you propose, every person online only says nice things about our players performances? Ban swearing? I’m sure Poch digs them out a fuck load more behind the scenes than people on here or wherever.

People who send abuse direct to players on Twitter are fucking idiots, though

I'd like our supporters to get behind our players and be respectful of them. Criticise poor performances but don't slag them off.

Will never happen but i'll call people on it.

Fine line between criticising a performance and slagging someone off.

If someone says, I think Sissoko’s touch is abysmal and has little natural ability. Is that slagging someone off or criticising their game?

I guess one persons constructive criticism is another’s man vitriol.

I wouldn't say so. "Sissoko’s touch is abysmal and has little natural ability" isn't vitriol. It's hyperbole, not vitriol. That's not the same as "He's pure aids" which is just disgusting.

But people do intend it in a serous way so not sure it’s hyperbole. I genuinely think Sissoko’s touch is very poor and has little natural ability.

The pure aids thing is just people trying to be funny and not meant to be taken to seriously. I don’t think it’s very funny but then people on the other side will quite happily make that joke when they read some anti spurs article. Should we take the feelings of the journalist into account when making such statements too?

I think he fills a role required by the coach and does it well enough. He is not a flashy player and will never be a favourite but I think he is this seasons whipping boy. Some of the criticism is over the top.

That doesn't mean he or anyone else can't criticise him. I doubt that Sissoko trawls internet forums looking for praise. Booing him or throwing abuse at him during a match is a different thing because that's not helpful at all.
