I was banging on about how Poch’s hand has been forced this season what with Winks being injured and Dembele having his fitness issues then whenever he’s played in a 4-2-3-1 we’ve had Lamela out but now I might concede defeat and accept Poch rates him.

Was convinced he’d be first out the door in the summer but now I’m not so sure. Worrying.

Far from our worst player:

Untitled_1.jpg

I wouldn't say far. Only 0.37 off the worst rated player, or 0.82 off the best on a day when it was a shit performance from everyone.

It was a poor performance, but it was the usual from Sissoko. The issue is not he played bad on a bad pitch, it's the consistency of being poor is now compared to how poor others were to defend him.

He isn't a long term answer and for the most part isn't a short term one eiter but he certainly wasn't our worst player on Saturday

Sorry but we don’t have a big enough quality squad to be getting rid of him. Plus Levy will never get he’s money back right now. We still have injuries and fitness worry’s. I’m sure if everyone was back to 100% form and fitness he wouldn’t get half as many games.

French journalist Phillipe Auclair on the Guardian footy podcast on Sissoko:

“I have to question Pochettino, why Sissoko is enjoying such a long run in the side. ..it’s baffling...he can’t pass, his crossing is awful, he slows the play down, bad decisions, no creativity and his finishing is dreadful and yet he plays at Spurs? His presence makes you question whether you know anything about football."

Guardian pod today, Paul McGuiness (Journalist and Norwich fan) singled out Sissoko from Saturday's game and basically said how awful he was and is every time he watches him.

"Sissoko, that's it, surely, I mean he's had his 18 months for the Poch miracle to happen where you just suddenly improve the guys condition and ability, but he's still just not one thing or the other, I can't see even one thing that he brings to a team that improves it"

(talks about one run he made at the Euros)

"I keep turning up expecting to see it. (ramble ramble)......... His touch just isn't good enough, doesn't seem aware, and he doesn't apply his physicality often enough. It's all been said before, but that was what was so striking watching that game for me"

It's quite rare for decent (or most really) football journalists to say stuff like this. Phillipe Auclair particularly is a very intelligent, erudite and articulate guy.

What do Auclair and McGuinness know? Sissoko is executing Poch’s instructions perfectly, according to many on here.

There is no point in arguing after every single, individual match whether or not Sissoko was the worst or only the second worst. Problem is that he is always among the worst for all games all the time. The other players fluctuate and there may always be one of all the other players who has a worse game. But Sissoko doesn't fluctuate, he is constantly performing among the least good performers. His seasonal average is the worst, whether or not Wanyama or any other player has a one-off match that's not great.

if he singled out Sissoko as the worst Saturday then he doesnt know much. There were far worse.

If we were to conduct an average performance assessment of this season made up of individual game ratings, Sissoko would have comfortably the lowest mean score.

I don't think he was singling him out just based on Saturday per se, just that like all of us knows there’s a difference between decent players having bad games, and a player who he just hasn’t ever seen be good.
