you can see why the criticism is fierce.
Actually, no, you can't.

The whole team were crap. We know what to expect from Sissoko and we got it it's as simple as that. Singling out any player after that is just agenda driven scapegoating, the lot of them were pretty awful and all it does is take away from that as if it's his fault. The lot of them need hauling over the coals after that shower of shit.

IMO of course :D

I don’t see anyone making him a scapegoat. It’s a Sissoko thread so people will add to it as and when, much like the Kane thread and the Dele thread etc. I’ve seen fierce criticism of him when we’ve won comfortably so it cant be scapegoating. As I said, I don’t think anyone blames him for us losing a match, they’re having a go because they think his performances are almost always poor. I can’t see anyone that’s said ‘we lost because of Sissoko’. Unless he somehow reinvents his game, people will always come back to this thread to comment on his performances as do those who believe he had a good game.

I can’t count how many times every week I’ve seen the words ‘he wasn’t our worst player today’. If that is the best compliment anyone can give him on here then that says it all.

Almost everyone on here who criticises him says the same thing, which is that they think he comes across as a really nice person and puts in lots of effort etc but just has very limited ability and awareness, can’t control a ball and has no end product. This is shown in almost every single game he plays. People want him to do well because he’s a Spurs player but they know deep down that it’s not going to happen and that it’s preventing another, better player from being on the pitch. It’s not his fault. But after a year and a half, people have a right to vent. I actually think he’d do quite well at a team like Stoke or Burnley.

The people who boo him at matches (I haven’t witnessed it yet) or make any slur etc are fucking idiots but expressing an opinion online should be fine, even if it’s boring for some and the same comments every week.

I know, I know but it’s not his fault he keeps getting picked mate.

Heard fans calling for him to die he hung etc last night.

Even heard one call him a useless gorilla. That was after the same person has also called for him to be shot, at one point I’m even pretty sure he heard our fans abusing him as when Kyle walker peters got stuck in a corner he refused to go and help as our fans were giving him pelters.

It’s not his fault he does not fit this team he does actually try but he’s just lost he clearly doesn’t understand what’s being asked of him and that all comes back to our manager.

We’ve had worse players much worse but he’s just joined us sadly when our team is too good if you are not at an elite technical level you get found out.

Disgusting.

For some fans the batteries would run out of their TV remote and they'd scream his name and call him all sorts.

Idiotic.

Sickening, almost feel this should be passed onto the club to see if action can be taken.

Have to disagree with this.

You say "I don't see anyone making him a scapegoat" - I see loads of people making him a scapegoat. Reasonable criticism and analysis is one thing, scapegoating is something very different; that's what he's getting.

"He wasn't our worst player today" - that's often true. So why, when he wasn't our worst player, does everyone scream about how shit he was and how his performance was the sole reason the team lost? Because he's being made a scapegoat.

"People want him to do well" - I often doubt that with most people.

"People have a right to vent" - er, well, sure - anyone can scream abuse in the stands, at the TV, at their computer monitors. Why? Because they're scapegoating him.

As for his performances, he's a much better player than most people give him credit for, but just has different skills and abilities to most of the rest of our team. I find it pretty pathetic that people can't watch his performances and view them objectively, rather than just spewing blind hate.

I have always respected your posts in this online forum as you appear to be very well informed, measured, and considered and some of your posts are also appropriately light hearted when they need to be, on this occasion though I do think it it is a little unfair to draw out one line from my post as it suggests that I think he should have been singled out above everyone else for criticism that went far further than others. On the whole I do agree with much of the sentiment you express in this post. From my quote below in the same post

"There were many others in our team who had as bad a game as Sissoko yesterday and I can understand why it may seem unfair to single"

What I was trying to do was to understand and explain why some fans are feeling the need to reserve special and more harsh criticism for Sissoko. I may not have executed this task perfectly or explained myself clearly enough.

I failed to mention that two other factors to the one I mentioned in my post didn't help and may have inadvertently invited those inclined to single Sissoko out again more vehemently. The quote from a Poch interview saying that Sissoko was one of the most important Spurs players has been unfortunately aligned to this game as has the commentators remark that Sissoko has been involved more games than any other Spurs player this season, during the Newport game.

In conclusion agree with you that a number of others and collectively as a whole on the night the team put in a performance that was just as worthy of criticism, I was simply trying to come up with an explanation or understand why it was reserved for Sissoko.

I'm sorry if you feel I was criticising, more disagreeing, I don't feel there's any reason at all Sissoko should be singled out, but having re-read your post (well, read it in full), you're right. Sorry :D

He's far from the worst player we've had and the abuse he gets just goes to show how fickle 'supporters' can be. The same supporters who expect undying loyalty from our best players. The boneheads directing racist abuse at him should be banned for life and reported to the police.

I disagree on almost every point but respect your opinion. Unlike eric_s who’s such a flange that he rarely offers any opinion but ‘dislikes’ absolutely anything negative about Sissoko.

Nice excuse. In other words ‘I have no counter argument’.

I’ve actually been very respectful towards Sissoko and have given constructive criticisms in my posts, as opposed to ‘he’s a shit**** who should fuck off’ etc like some have. What have I said that’s ‘pure fantasy and bullshit’? If you can’t explain, then you need to accept you’re wrong in your assessment of my posts. My posts aren’t that long by the way, it’s just your concentration span is short and the second you read something negative about Sissoko then you switch off like a child. Your inability to hear anything bad about him is as bad as any criticism on here.

I am really not interested in debating with someone who is unable to objectively judge the performance of a player.

I think that because he started off badly (coming from Newcastle, a big pricetag, not the big name everyone wanted, hasn't scored a rabona), people already made up their minds.

But he has genuinely improved a lot this season, now he is actually an asset to the squad. I'm not saying he's a brilliant player, but he offers a lot more at the moment than some other players who consistently get let off the hook.
