Any team without Eric Dier in it lacks legitimacy. Here is a player who is so Versatile that he can play in 3 positions. He plays in defence and midfield when called upon by his manager. the last 3-4 games shows how he seamlessly transitions from one position to the next.

Yet for a humongous game like Juventus he is not picked in a some starting 11's. How does Wanyama get into any team selection when he is so off form and hasnt played in the last 3 games. Every game thus far has shown that Wanyana is not match fit. Sure he scored a stunner vs the Goons but has done little else of merit to warrant a starting position

Eric Dier is a warrior. A man mountain. A Viking. The King of The North (sorry Harry). He is an integral part of our team's spine.

People pick teams based on the players they like, not based off anything else.

Rose is constantly picked based on his form from the first half of last year, despite not having played well in over a year. And Wanyama, likewise is picked by most because he was great last year, even though he's clearly well off the pace this year.

Both are combined with the fact that for many Davies and Dier are unliked because they're pretty solid but not super exciting.

Right now it's not even close call in those two positions, Davies and Dier will play every game with meaning.

We need an attacking line up, the first goal will be cruicial because then they will have to score twice

No offence, but that sounds just a little bit naive. We're playing the best defensive team in European's top leagues, who are incredibly experienced, and have reached two of the last three CL finals. They have been there and done it. With 2 away goals under out belt the most important thing is we do not concede, especially early, and as the game goes on they will need to attack us more. We need a measured display where we ensure we cannot be countered and are clinical when we get a chance.

This game is by no means going to be easy and if anyone is actually expecting us to go through, I'd temper those expectations if I were you, it'll lessen the hissy if we go out. Personally I think if we play well we'll see a cracking game and hopefully we'll come out ahead.

And that counts double for the Swansea game if we pick a half arsed team like we did against Newport & Rochdale.

I think people are forgetting the pedigree of Juventus and how they have recently got to a couple of finals. The away leg was one of our best ever performances, being 2 down to such a European powerhouse.

They have a few key players back from injury and i think our 'shock factor' won't apply this time as we are still a little unknown on the big European scene, they will be much more prepared and it's going to be our toughest game this season. I'm excited to see the likes of Verts, Kane, Dembele and Eriksen mix it with the best and show that they can be part of the World Class bracket. Bloody excited, bloody nervous.

Son and Lamela to start, with Dele and Moura to come on later.

I think it will be very difficult to for Juve to contain us with 2x creativity outlets in Eriksen and Lamela, and 2x scoring outlets in Kane and Son right from the start, especially we are starting the game with away goals and ground advantage.

We need to score first from these four, and if we do I think we are about set to advance to next round.

And having Dele and Moura to come on later as (impact) subs seemed more effective to me.

Lloris
Dier Sanchez Vertonghen
Trippier---------------------------Rose
Wanyama Dembele Eriksen
Kane--Son
Vorm, KWP, Rose, Foyth, Dele, Lucas, Lamela
Stop Dybala with the back three hopefully and pack the midfield (ish). This team can still do plenty of damage out wide and on the counter attack. Should push the full backs forward as Allegri will probably react again by bringing his wide players back. Could therefore be a good defensive tactic and could also allow us to box them in with a high press.

It's a real head scratcher for Poch. Do we set up for a solid defensive display and a clean sheet or push for a goal. i think Poch is brave and that he'll look for a goal whereas I'd go defensive with 3 CBs. I'm hoping that they'll be too scared of out speed on the break and that as a result we'll boss the midfield. I hope Trippier gets plenty of help on the right, hopefully from Lamela. Davies is way ahead of Rose at the moment. Dier has to start to enable to change shape at will. Sonny's doing great as well so he's in. We really, really need Moose to smother the midfield and keep them on the back foot. Will be fascinating to see what Poch does. COYS!!!!!!!!

I expect a strong team against Swansea.

That should give us enough in defence with a fast attack that will run at their defence, which is how we will hirt them i feel. Harsh on Alli and Lamela to be dropped but its what i think would be best.

These threads are hilarious, mainly because of thinktank and his unrelentingly creative opening posts

He knows he's going to get grief for it, but he does it anyway...and then calls out members who disrespect him

He's in the right btw; we should be putting forward our own ideas about team selection and then discussing them. Afterall, that's what a fans' forum is for.

Perhaps these threads should have a "What I would do selection" Vs "What Poch will do selection" and make it really clear?

Anyway, keep up the good work thinktank - I'm backing you 100% (y)

Fully agree. Im a massive Rose fan. Massive.. But its clear that he isn't close to any match fitness and Davies must remain the incumbent left back.

Read somewhere that Higuain has been sidelines for the last few weeks and hes back now. That could mean he rusty/not in form. Same for Dybala (though I noticed he scores the winner for them against Lazio).

Juve need to score. They have massiv CL experience and is one of the big big teams in europe.
We really need a everyone to be at their best. If so, I think we`ll win. Not just go through, but win.
Can see us hitting them on some deadly counter attacks.

Their take from the game seems to be our fullbacks are our weakest link after both Serge and Davies had a shocker - My guess is they will try and get Costa on the ball and get and extra man down the flanks

If Poch is looking to mix it up tactically 5 at the back not a bad shout but will he do it without Toby and after 4 working so well in recent weeks or will he just back us to be the better team and win this game outright - I suspect the latter

I think this will be the team. Rose might be 50/50 but he will add some pace down the left should he play.

I not sure its a great idea to play Alli and Lamela from the start. They both have a habit of giving up possession far too easy and we have to be incredibly tight v Juventus
