This transfer window so far has followed a familiar pattern. Really optimistic stuff about unprecedented Spurs spending, risks and “next level”, culminating in pipe dreams of Bale....

... now slowly descending to players with potential and finally coming to rest with Shaqiri and Rondon and selling some of our best players to Utd.

We’re back. It’s strangely comforting.

I mean... He is always a fucking menace when we play against him. If he was a decent finisher he'd score a hattrick every single time we play him. I wouldn't freak out if we did buy him as a 2-3rd option after Kane and Son but we should be more ambitious.

It's gonna end up like another Sissoko signing where we try to justify how he'll help the team in a particular role but deep down we all know he's absolutely dog shite.

4 of Janssen's were pens, weren't they?
Something like that, so weird he looked really dangerous early on and then just completely lost it. I remember really liking how he looked in that first game against Everton and then just went sideways shortly after that.

Imagine it in here if all we do is sign Rondon, Shaqiri and McCarthy

It's worth remembering, though, for the cereal bed-wetters & fully pledged members of the Joan Collins appreciation society.

This 'link' is based upon absolutely fuck all.

Hope we don't fall into the trap of spending money from budget on what will likely be a haphazard backup striker just because we feel we need a backup striker.

Strikers near enough always require game time to maintain form and sharpness, something you won't get here. No matter the quality of the player all that will happen from sitting on bench is they become a worthless option due to their form disappearing.

There is not a single striker on the planet who you'd class as quality who will sign for Spurs with Kane here. You end up with prospects (Janssen), experience (Llorente) or second rate strikers (Rondon). All end the same way that most footballers who aren't getting game time would.

Don't bother with a backup Striker only able to play at 9. Either simply use Son as backup or buy someone who will start games on left or right but can also play up top, something that means he's in form and sharp if needed to deputise for Kane.

Its not the worst bit of business we could do. 16 million for an experienced back-up striker. its nothing to get excited about but Janssen and Llorente offered little, and its not like we are going to get a top striker to ride the pine.

To me this is a bit like saying we bought two shit cars that didn't work so it's not so bad if we buy another shit car just to see if that works. There is a reason Janssen and Llorente don't work. There is a reason Ade and Soldado (maybe more in the formers case) didn't work. There is a reason we play best with Kane as an elite 9.5 or Son playing false 9. That is how Poch's system works best and all the "Rondon's got a low buyout clause" in the world won't make him someone Poch can or will use to any great effect.

(Not meaning that to sound aggresive or mean towards you. I am just finding the deal debate for players who do not fit Poch's system exhaustin)

Rondon would definitely run more than Llorente.
