Well he is 80, so his reflexes will have slowed.
That’s what I meant, Hugo isn’t getting younger, and there comes a time when despite how brilliant you have been in your career, you are no longer able to perform at those levels.

Neto at Bournemouth is a great keeper, we should get him when they go down at the end of the season.

These last 2 points sun up the difficulty in playing in goal.

such a scrutinised position and fans demand absolute perfection every single time.

outfield players mis place a pass, or miss a shot, fine, keeper does it, goal.

I see the effort that goes into training every single aspect of being a keeper on a daily basis, ridiculously technical position to play
I think everyone should pay attention when Shanks talks about GKs.

It's a totally different ball game in terms of scouting/coaching etc.

Thanks dude, honestly Raya is quality, all prem keepers are though, same for their seconds thirds and juniors - it is ridiculous reactions to be able to save a pro players shot - the pace is ridiculous so keepers have to position them selves properly for it, obviously some do it better than others, but it’s way more than just saves now, and contrary to belief, hugo’s distribution wasn’t as bad as it’s made out to be on here eother

Not sure how good Pickford is with the ball at his feet, but our next keeper has to be able to play ball, make good passes and not panic under pressure, all things Lloris struggles with more often than not.

He’s good at the hitting through the stages play, so if he signed, spurs fans would love that he could release son or any front man with a whack up the pitch

Hugo can kick the ball his biggest problem is the stupid decisions he makes In delaying and pass selection.

He can't kick a ball, not in the direction of one of our players anyway, even a simple chip to the wing backs he over hits most of the time.

anyone can kick a ball, doing so with accuracy and not constantly kicking it out of touch or to the opposition is another thing, it is clearly one of his main weaknesses

Dino Zoff was a World Cup winning captain, but I am sure he’d struggle if you put him in goal today. Times move on players get older, Lloris has been great for us but he is becoming a liability. Still a great shot stopper (most of the time) but struggles with all the other aspects of goalkeeping in today’s game.
Dino Zoff will be 81 in February - obviously he would struggle in goal today!

So let me get this straight, are you saying that as you get older, your skill levels drop off and that you don't stay at the top of your game forever?

Hugo is a hero, my excitement at him signing was unparalleled.
I also remember, singing his praises years ago in an away game against City, then a howler within the first 10 minutes.
That was the first time, and certainly not the last!
He has been a legend for us, we would undoubtedly have been nowhere near the level we achieved over the last decade without him.
His flaws are arguably why we’ve been able to hold onto him all this time.
It is now time, and in classic Spurs fashion we haven’t been proactive in signing his replacement whilst he’s still here.
I’m sure we can all agree it would be horrible to see his final season end on this current trend of form.

Yup, that´s what I´m saying. Very few footballers stay at the top of their game when they turn 75-80.

But I´m no geriatrician, so I could be wrong.

Sorry let me explain - my original post was in response to it being suggested that people should not be questioning Hugo's performances as he had been a world cup winning captain. My Zoff comment was just saying past glories are irrelevant as you get older. Hugo has been brilliant for us but is starting to drop off in performance the same as would happen with every player.

Sorry then mate - read it as a humorous comment and replied in tone. I thought.
100% agree with you on your comments on Hugo.

Irrespective of whether, as fans, we actually want any particular player that we are linked with in January, if we don't end up signing them then get yourself down the bookies and lump on them signing a new contract at their current club before August 1st. Absolutely nailed on. We could all give up work.
