Tottenham have targeted England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford to replace captain Hugo Lloris.

Spurs believe they can tempt Pickford as his contract stand-off with Everton continues. His deal has 18 months to run and if he continues to snub improved terms, the 28-year-old could be open to a summer approach from Tottenham.

Lloris, 36, has been with the club for 10 years and reached last month’s World Cup final with France, but there is a feeling within the club that his best years are behind him. Pickford, who joined Everton from Sunderland for £25million five years ago, may be tempted by the chance of European football, especially with Everton once again in a relegation battle.

Chelsea have also registered an interest in the Three Lions shot-stopper. Lloris has made a few costly errors this season, with Liverpool legend and Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness saying he "is past his sell-by date".

I think he'll get unduly harshly regarded through having greater exposure than other targets to fans (and for a goalkeeper that pretty much always means, being seen making errors).

But he's an obvious good choice. Quality keeper, HG, a leader, good combination of experience without being too old, Prem tested.

I’d be very happy with this. Very good shot stopper who’ll look a lot better when he’s not got Everton’s defence in front of him. Homegrown, leadership qualities, thrives in big games, and could well get an assist or two for Son with his passing.

Yea decent goalie but has an error in him and for me his attitude is a bit too hyped up erratic. I think having a goalie who exudes calm and/or confidence is important for a strong defence, think Buffon, Schmichel, Allison etc.

Rather Raya but suppose Pickford would be good for HG quota

I would like this, I think. Maybe not a 100% slam dunk choice, but I think his reputation is worse than he actually is. He's a good shot stopper, in his prime, home grown, can use his feet fairly well, and I always like the idea of having players who are part of the England National Team. I guess lots are saying Raya or others are better choices, but I think we could a lot worse than Pickford.
