How the hell are we spending 170 mil if these are our midfield signings?
I'll be amazed if we spend anything near that.

His agent is just doing his job and getting him out of a situation which is clearly having an effect on him. And how do you know he's continuously whoring him to us? And if he is maybe it's because we previously asked about his availability?
There's plenty of top talented prospects that have made a move and looked lost, low on confidence and appear to be missing that ability only for them to move to another club and turned into a huge success.
Salah & KDB off the top of my head.
Yeah, I didn't buy it when I first read it and its only being further confirmed. I bet we're looking at negative net spend.I'll be amazed if we spend anything near that.

I agree with you, Ross, but can't help feeling concerned that we're targeting these "moneyball signings" for the one area of the pitch where we could really do with some quality. I'm not sure Barrios, Grealish, and Gomes really provide that top quality in central midfield; unless, as some have suggested, they'd be back-up/rotation options for Dier, Dele, and Eriksen in a 433? What do you think mate?I understand the concerns on simply buying 'moneybag' type signings because you will always get mixed results and it doesn't give the impression that we are going for the title. But what if we operate with a few 'moneybag' types and one special 'Bale' type, would people be happier then?
We have to remember that this club has always operated on these kind of signings, some work out great, some not so much and I don't think we are in a position to do something such as;
50m CM
60m AM/ST/WF
50m CB
So we have to get creative with some of our options...and we've been told this.
Then I seriously worry about Poch lol
He said that we need to be brave...maybe he knew he would piss off the fans with these transfers and so was being brave by still going ahead with them lol
I understand the concerns, I really do. After the messages we have had people are expecting a game changer and I am too because we do need another player who we can look to to change something for us.I agree with you, Ross, but can't help feeling concerned that we're targeting these "moneyball signings" for the one area of the pitch where we could really do with some quality. How much do you think someone like Bale or Zaha will costif we get them or say the lad from Ajax ?How the hell are we spending 170 mil if these are our midfield signings?
Indeed, DTX! Especially, as the combined fees for those 3 players might equate to one top quality midfielder? I know which I'd prefer mate! Makes me think we might well be looking at a change in formation.Conversely, why on earth would we buy all three of Grealish, Gomes and Barrios?
FFSLots of involvement re Gomez. I can accept Grealish, but not this guy personally. As Trix said, he is an option, and I would add, an active one. I am now praying Barrios goes through.
I would imagine all of those go for around 50 millionHow much do you think someone like Bale or Zaha will costif we get them or say the lad from Ajax ?
This has ruined my otherwise excellent week.I'm not sure he's what we need person
He's more a deep lying CM from what I have seen. Looked great pre Barca but hasn't kicked on at all since moving there. He spreads the ball wide very well, but I'm not sure he is direct enough with his passing. I was told pre window 2 CM's if Dembele left, which looks increasingly likely now. As second one of the two I think I could get on board with it. As the main/only incoming CM I would be disappointed.
He is an option though that we have been looking at for a long time.
It's maddening. Its quantity over quality. Why spend 60 mil+ on these three when you could buy kovacic or someone like that for the price of all three and actually make a genuine impact and improve the position and the team?Indeed, DTX! YeahI understand the concerns, I really do. After the messages we have had people are expecting a game changer and I am too because we do need another player who we can look to to change something for us.
However, I think people are mistaking this game-changer for a CM, which, going from ITK it doesn't sound like this area of the pitch will be that player. I think the game changer will be the AM/WF.
The problem is the Kovacic's and Milinkovic-Savic's of the world are going to either trigger a bidding war (which will rule us out) or are already asking for fees we have no chance with. Which is why we are being clever.
I personally think Grealish could develop into a fantastic player, I think he has some characteristics we are missing.
Similary, Gomes, if he can get back to the promising player at Valencia.
I don't think these players are coming in as back-ups either, I think they are coming in with the purpose of giving us more tools in midfield so that we can play a bit differently.
For sure, I think you're bang on there mate! Thank Ross, that makes a lot of sense.I understand the concerns, I really do. After the messages we have had people are expecting a game changer and I am too because we do need another player who we can look to to change something for us.

Can't we sign someone who doesn't have a back story?
Yeah, which means i'd rather have him than nobody. At least Gomes fits the profile of the midfielder I think we all want, just not sure if he's the right one or not.
