Pulisic is an out and out attacking mid as far as I'm aware. If we're showing concrete interest then that'll be Pulisic, Dele, Eriksen, Son, Lucas, Lamela. Considering Lucas could barely get a game, we must be changing formation next season surely?
I would not be shocked to see Lamela off if we buy Pulisic. Same basic position, and non-HG.

I have been anticipating a move to a 352 or 433 - but both of those actually reduce the number of AMs we use from 3 to 2. But, I have also been thinking Eriksen drops into a deeper-playmaker role in CM.

I think Pulisic can play in any spot behind a striker - so he would give us good cover and competition.

Don’t forget son is off with South Korea , so will free a space for while
Son will be back right after the 1st international break.

ETA - Gold Medal match is on September 1 - so, I expect Son back in time for Liverpool on the 15th - maybe not as a starter.

You can add Grealish to that list as well.

Yes Grealish too, forgot about him. If Janssen and Llorente are off we'll also still need Kane backup, unless we're going to use Son. Assuming Martial is off the cards now.

Correct, but you also have to look longer term with Son. He's gonna have to do his military duty, may as well have his replacement bedded in already rather than have to go buy one at that point.

Or perhaps Lamela will be sold. Not saying I want that, but he's the most vulnerable.

I think Pulisic is a good buy - regardless of the situations of other players.

Young player, with upside, who has a load of experience in a top league and champions league. Its not like Dortmund are some 2nd rate club in Bundesliga.

He has been much more of a winger of late, can cover both sides but predominantly the right hand side, where we already have Lucas. I will be honest, There is much more hype round this kid than actual end product, this would be a pretty big gamble IMO.

Depends how much it costs.

This feels as though maybe Martial was our first choice, and now with United being a pain we're on to choice 2.

Regarding marketing and shirt sales, there is a whole generation of kids in the US who are growing up with parents who watch the Premier League. Imagine how much easier it is for those young impressionable kids to pick a team with their favorite American player. Now when you look at future options in marketing, image rights, etc...shirt sales are not the primary focus if you want to talk about making money on this deal.

Regarding formation, I think someone said earlier this summer that we should expect to see a different formation on the pitch.

I'd prefer Martial over Pulisic, but if we can get Pulisic for cheaper...seems like a good move for the club.

Anytime I have seen this kid play I have been impressed - though to be fair I've only probably seen him in 3 or 4 games but he did stand out as a real talent.

Will be interesting to see how we cover Kane given this transfer would surely mean no Martial, although we may just keep Llorente for another year. If we sell Llorente this window hopefully Son is backup and should Kane or Son be injured we call up some youth to the bench. Much rather that than spunk £20m down the drain.

Hercules in this thread at the end of May:

"I already said we are heavily in for him, but very serious competition. Been on the case for a good year."

Perfect example of why teams wait in a transfer window, if we bid before other teams have done their business, other teams will obviously bid on him too. Most teams currently don't want to gamble on him just yet, but will if their hand is forced.
