For me Pulisic makes more sense as an alternative to Grealish than as an alternative to Martial. I know he's played out wide for Dortmund, but IMO he's more of a playmaker than a traditional winger or inside forward. The fact that he's pacey and tricky enough to be able to slot in out wide is a nice bonus, but I really think his future is through the middle.

The whole rationale behind a player like Martial, Zaha, or Plea is that they'd give us a Kane backup who can also play out wide and can therefore establish the rhythm and match sharpness needed to be able to come in for Kane in case of injury. We've seen that out-and-out No. 9s, rarely getting on the pitch, aren't an effective means by which to give ourselves the needed squad depth at the striker position. Pulisic wouldn't fill that remit.

We've had some ITK that Villa are holding firm to their valuation of Grealish (reported to be £40m), and if it's true that Pulisic is available for ~£44m then we'd be getting a player who is better, younger, more experienced at the top level, and a million miles ahead in terms of commercial benefits for only a bit more of an outlay.

If we do wrap up this deal then I would fully expect us to still be in the market for a player in the Martial, Zaha, Plea mould. It'd be very interesting to see what impact it would have on our other targets.

You are missing a massive point of grealish, the fact he is home grown. Last season we had to leave foyth out of the cl squad as we had too many non home grown.

We will not be paying £40m for grealish and villa can't hold out for long their financial situation wont let them.

Here's hoping we do some really good solid business between now and August. Then if we get lucky & there is late movement or price reductions for Bale (fully paid up COB) or Martial then we act & get a cherry on top.
Let's not worry about where they all fit in, trophy winning teams have these sort of "problems".

If he signs, Mega moneymaker or not, im gonna be happy when NBCSN gives Tottenham priority when they select matches to show here in the states. :)

Doesn't Grealish play as a central midfielder? I assumed he was a potential Dembele replacement.

The squad is going to be a huge number if we add Pulisic, Grealish and another CM. Going to be quite the management by Poch to keep everyone happy!

I am going to go out on a limb here - there just might be some outgoings...
Well of course, but it was one thing if Sissoko or Llorente didn't get to play a game for weeks at a time but it'll be different when its players like Lucas/Lamela/Pulisic.

This may come as a shock to you - but Sissoko played in 47 matches across PL, CL, Carabao Cup, and FA Cup....26 starts, 21 sub appearances

Yes, in a season where Winks, Wanyama and Lamela missed massive amounts of time and Lucas was being integrated second half of the season. Starting next season off with the full squad there aren't a ton of minutes out there up for grabs. Of course I know players get hurt and will miss time but I still think its going to take a juggling act to keep players happy.

So glad we'll get no injuries next season. I was worried ;)

Not what I'm saying. Just that there were some special circumstances where every player in the positions Sissoko could fill were injured basically for half a season. Once January hit Sissoko played little to no time in the league, at one point registering over 16 minutes just twice in a four month span from January through April.

Yes and there is the possibility that we will be selling a few and that we might have a run of injuries. Add to that son being away for the asia games and we might use a different formation dropping eriksen into midfield.

We are not going to spend £50m if we don't think we'll need him.

I'd prefer Martial probably out of the two. But if we just can't make it work with ManU then oh well.
Exactly- I can see Utd absolutely shafting us with Martial at the last moment. I’d like him too but moving on and bedding in another good player with shit load of potential is palatable.
And we can Levyfuck them for Toby

I'm going to be pretty upset if we sell them Toby and they won't sell us Martial.

I think Pulisic is a good buy - regardless of the situations of other players.

Young player, with upside, who has a load of experience in a top league and champions league. Its not like Dortmund are some 2nd rate club in Bundesliga.
And he’s rapid. We’d have him, Son and Moura. At the end of last summer’s window we only had Son

I hope we don’t either but if we do, it’ll be big bucks. Various ITK have indicated these funds will be pumped back into the squad. Mourinho’s proclivity to buy older, experienced players for top dollar isn’t a great long term plan. If we got close to 60 million for him, that’s good business for us. Without second guessing fate, a 29 year old with an injury record might only have a season or two of top football left in a league as intense as the Premier league.

You get a winner for using "proclivity".
