One of my criticisms of JJ back then was, unlike Alli, he didn't look up to see where his team mates were. As a result often times he ran with the ball till he reached the right bye-line and found no passing outlets and thus got boxed out there.
I posted this on the Inter match thread, but it really belongs here:
He hasn't said so, but Sissoko must be feeling hugely vindicated when he hears us singing his name. I fancy that us doing that is feeding into his confidence. We should keep it up, for the sake of the team.
Sissoko has had a career with a pattern much like this. He hasn't been a player whose form fluctuates from match to match. He's had long periods of a year or two when he's been forceful, sometimes unplayable, a real asset to any team, including the France national side, and then his confidence or his fitness will go and it takes him another year or two to get back in touch with himself.
That suggests that he's as psychologically delicate as he is physically powerful. It also explains why it has taken Pochettino a couple of seasons to get into his head and get him back to his proper level.
The only thing about his arrival at Tottenham that puzzles me is that it didn't come after his limp period at Newcastle, it came after his rampaging performances for France. What undermined his mentality? Was it just the late signing and them him finding himself un-integrated in the squad and not quite fit enough to function in a Pochettino team? I'm guessing...
Very erudite.Early on when finding his feet.
Has he produced said shit yet? Nope, he’s too nice a guy. Take back what I said about swapping him for Barkley.
What, so Sissoko as an RCM can work beyond Euro2016 too? Who’d’ve thunk it?
In response to someone insisting he’s a winger, just a bad one.
Soothsayer extraordinaire.
In response to someone asking why he played instead of Son sometime.
In response to someone claiming that him wasting several crossing opportunities nullifies the several good chances he created.
This is probably the harshest I’ve been on him.
Seemingly every side from Man U down last season...
And from our break glass in case of emergency player he has risen to key player.
In response to someone saying he doesn’t get abused at games.
I’m really running with this Essien thing aren’t I?
In response to someone saying it was acceptable to boo Sissoko.
Sissokolution complete ?
Guys, can we all learn a lesson or two. Firstly, a player who is in and out of the side will always struggle to build up decent form. Two, getting on players backs at matches is unacceptable, because players need confidence to hit their best form and we are seeing how stark that contrast is right now.
Oh and three, BBLG knows ....

I think it's just a case that he was so abject that now when he actually plays to a good level the difference is extremely notable. Dembele/Eriksen have always played to a great standard that when they have an OK game they come across as poor. I think we can still very much upgrade on him as a CM; would love someone with both silk and steel who could do a job against all sorts of teams. It wasn't very long ago that his poor touch and technique was the cause of our loss to Barca, we can definitely upgrade.
I'm lost for words here.

You taking the same drugs Think Tank is taking dude?
Funny you say that, because that was one of Dele's biggest problems, for a long while. If he got possession too early in the build up, he was inclined to try to beat players with the ball at his feet, but didn't have the pace/acceleration to get away, so he would wander around at walking pace, using close skills to retain possession, but ended up tight to the (usually left) touchline, hemmed in. Lucas is guilty of the same, sometimes. Dele is much better now, partly because he's not trying too hard to do everything, partly because he's now very in tune with his teammates, and mostly because the rest of the team know what his strengths are, and what he'll try to do in any situation, so can create opportunities for him. That'll come to Lucas in time, too.One of my criticisms of JJ back then was, unlike Alli, he didn't look up to see where his team mates were. Ever since we signed Sissoko he has been played out of position as a Right midfielder/winger. He is and has always been a powerful central midfieder. Whether that is in a two or a three man central midfield. Why it’s taken so long for Pochettino to see this is a complete mystery. Playing out of position for a couple of seasons has effected his game massively. Plenty of players would have just given up by now, but he’s just kept on going. We are now beginning to see what he is capable of. I even think there could be more to come as he gets a run in the side and gets even more confident. Brilliant turn around from Moussa. COYS
So from the start you thought he was a great player played out of position.
Give me a break
I'm not denying he has been playing a lot better, however in that game he skied a shot at goal to make it 3-3 and then lost the ball to which we conceded from. Sorry I should have put was a strong contributer to that loss to Barca rather than the sole reason.I'm lost for words here.
I’m pretty sure last season he was played where he’s playing right now rather than as a right midfielder...
Something just seems to have clicked for him now thankfully or perhaps Poch has made some further adjustments to his role, but he was definitely playing central midfield a lot last season.

Pretty sure he's going to be an expensive mistake, but I never failed to be sickened by the gleeful 'I told you so' comments on this site, as if posters feel that their oracle like football foresight has been validated.
I don’t think you understand irony. And I also don’t think you understand the point I was making either, despite the fact that I spelt it out at the end. Here you go, I’ll even bold it as you clearly need things that tiny bit more obvious:Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
Ironic that you post this when one of the first quotes of your old posts says:
Bit ironic, pal.
Hate when our fans don't give new players a chance to settle in.
Except in this instance - Sissoko is a fucking awful footballer with an awful brain, shit technique, no work ethic, clumsy and just all round general shitness.
I wasn't too averse to his signing, but I have not seen him have a positive touch of the football yet. Guy could score a penalty and I'd be semi sure it was an accident.
The only explanation for me is that he's somehow lost both of his feet and just has his stumps tucked into his boots. There's no way anybody with actual feet could be this bad at football.
I didn't think he looked particularly dangerous against United, he looked like he could run past Darmian - that's about it. As soon as he did get past him, nothing at all happened. I've literally never seen him with his head up.
What danger did he create? I agree Son was no better, Nkoudou only had about 5 minutes I thought, again agree that he didn't look dangerous. I'm not comparing him to anybody though, I was just commenting on the assertion that he looked dangerous - which I don't particularly agree with. He looked lively, rather than dangerous imo.
There is no point in him beating his man if his crosses end up closer to the halfway line than the opposition box.
Then he takes a shot that goes out of the stadium. Fuk sake
I do think he's shit, but he wasn't that bad yesterday. Not sure why people are clutching at any negative they can after we've just smashed those ****s 6-1 in their shite, plastic-clapper filled stadium?
Wish him well, as I don't think he's been a **** or anything, but I can't wait for him to be sold. I don't think we play to his strengths, which makes him look technically inept and like a bumbling bulldozer. I'm sure he'll do well elsewhere. Hope he goes abroad as I couldn't stomach him somehow scoring a 40 yard worldie against us
Sorry but he did not play well. He was out of his depth against league two opposition. He didn’t beat a man once, his passing was shambolic, he can’t cross, dribble, shoot or control a ball. He trips over his legs every time he gets the ball or kicks it out for a throw. He literally looks like he is losing feeling in his legs when he runs.
I really like him as a person, but I’m sorry he just offers absolutely nothing. It’s getting to the point where I think we could sub a ballboy on and he’d offer more.
Thing is all those quotes you can probably attach to his performances in the past, he has improved but he's not suddenly a great player he's a good player.I don’t think you understand irony. And I also don’t think you understand the point I was making either, despite the fact that I spelt it out at the end. I never once claimed that I believed Sissoko would work out well all along, or even that I had any faith in him doing so. All I ever claimed is that getting on his back at matches and failing to acknowledge any positives from him was wrong, and that those who partook in such behaviour have no right calling themselves Spurs supporters.
Oh look, loads of posts filled with gross exaggeration condemning quite how poor Sissoko has been. Guess you’re in the ‘shouldn’t be allowed at Spurs’ bucket
