At the moment, I'm unsure if Ryan Sessegnon is good enough for 1st team football at Spurs.

If we bought him, I'd be shocked if we didn't loan him back for at least a season.

With finances being how the years are, I'd be shocked if we stump up big cash for a player only to rid ourselves of having him for a full season. If he signs he'll be a part of the squad, not spending a season lingering in the Championship for the amount of money he'd cost the club

Fuck all these future stars, we should look to sign established talent now. Of course there are exceptions e.g. de ligt, ndombele, brooks but yeah. Future stars ain't gonna win us titles unless you're willing to wait another 5 years. Need a mix

We simply don’t have the finances to buy the best established stars, so your then talking about buying the next best players.

It’s much better to buy younger players to mould into Poch’s style. Our best football has come from a young team, playing an intense and high-energy game.

Julian Brandt would be a good signing imho.

If Toby goes then Jonathan tah would be a great replacement or lascelles if we need an English player.

We won’t get de Ligt so no point trying.

e.

I would imagine f Toby goes i think we will just promote from within. Sanchez or Foyth will make the jump. We might go for a cheap option ala Jonny evans or bring in a new youngster/ use dier at CB. I think we got more pressing issues around the pitch that means we will put this to one side unless a good deal crops up somewhere.

Seems like Joachim Andersen is the name in all the rumors. I for one definitely think we need another CB if Toby leaves.

We have been doing that for years and it wins nothing. That strategy will result in the following:

1. Get close to winning something but fail
2. Sell a couple of our star players
3. Replace them with young players with big potential
4. Rebuild and wait for the young players to prove themselves as genuine quality

From there you can start the 4 points again. Its a never ending cycle that hasnt provided genuine success.

If we could buy just 3 genuine quality players to add to this team that all still have big potential to improve like Zaha, Ndombele and Wan-Bissaka we would challenge properly.

If the plan is to lose Eriksen and Toby and buy potential again then we will just continue the cycle. None of us know if we have money to spend or not but we have to at least go for it at some point surely? I want to win things not just watch a bunch of youth players run around a field and nearly do it.

Saying something like that could get you shunned around here.

Really with a little more rub of the green, or a slightly bigger squad we could have easily won the PL the Leicester or Chelsea seasons. We could spend £200m this summer and still win nothing if City get all their targets so it really doesn’t make much sense. Scout well, get a a couple of potential superstars in and we’ll be there or thereabouts.

Speaking of City, I would fucking love Gundogan this summer. He's got 1 year left so may be relatively affordable. But I'm sure theres no chance. Really annoying that we sell them Walker and we would probably have no chance at Gundogan.

I know mate. I fully expect some people to not agree with me.

I feel that sometimes people on here would rather just see academy players get a chance then us win anything.....also people talk about finances as if its coming out of their own pockets. Its madness.

Arsenal constantly had to sell off their stars when paying off their stadium costs. The reality is we can't afford established stars, we don't own a money tree

The relative successes we have had by and large have been the younger states with potential that have grown into top players. Rose, Bale, Eriksen, Walker, Son and several others were in my opinion of that ilk. I don’t see us moving away from that policy too much. We have generally been OK in the market with the bigger signings but you have to say mixed at best. Some of the players mentioned above are potentially great I think such as Sessegnon.

The squad is crying out for a bit more experience IMO, not more menchildren.
I really don’t get this at all. This squad has shown remarkable consistency over a prolonged period of time.

The idea that you could stick a couple of slightly over the hill players who’ve won some trophies in La Liga or Serie A and see a sudden gold rush is quite laughable.

What this squad needs is more quality, more hungry, talented young players prepared to run through walls for Poch.

In the last decade, the most we have ever spent net in a season is £28m or so. Genuinely who does anyone think we can get of quality, senior status that fits within these financial confines if menchildren aren't the answer???

That kind of outlay has only happened once in 10 years, 4 seasons have seen us turn a profit in the transfer market & 3 windows have seen our outlay net be c£5m or under.

7 of our last 10 seasons has seen us make a profit, break even or spent £5m or less net. When looking at our squad and the potential we can sell, realistically how much are we looking to make out of them that we can spend when, realistically the club will probably give us £10m or so maximum on top of what we make in sales to put towards transfers in?

This desire for prime, ready to go, quality footballers only sets Spurs fans up for disappointment due to unrealistic expectations. Our business model whilst we pay off the stadium and reap the rewards of its investment simply put isn't in line with the majority that demand why we didn't sign De Ligt or Ndombele for £50m etc. People need to get with the realism of it or end up constantly bitter and disappointed.

Everyone is perfectly aware of this. Its more of the disappointment that a Premier League club, in Champions League for 3 straight years acts like a mid table German club or something in the transfer market.

Hard to disagree with this why would anyone expect anything to change either profit or low net spend, this club will never have a slight defecit in the transfer market whilst pushing for glory.
It pursuing a player this summer means going over budget by 5 or 10 million then we go without and wait until next year or year after, whilst admirable this financial restraint does hold the club back from motoring on but it won't change save for new owners.
