was just saying to my son. Imagine a Spurs v Arsenal final.

Would that be the worst game you could ever watch. There would be no hiding place for the losers. Jesus.

When you think the video of that Scarlett interview with the U13s was only like 3 years ago, it's unbelievable how young he is but he doesn't look out of place at all. He's swift as well. Apart from whatever the hell Lavinier did right after he came on, all 3 of the kids put in solid cameos. We've definitely got some great young talent coming up.

Maybe we are starting to reap the rewards of having top training facilities that attract some of the younger talents to join us?

Lamela is playing well into a starting XI so far.

Lucas and Bergwijn down the order now.
Depends what you want really. Lamela did well, but Lucas has also been in good form and probably doesn’t deserve to be dropped. Dele was the biggest winner by far tonight, frankly a class above anyone else on the pitch and it’s frustrating to see how little we have seen of a player of such talent, even with his inconsistency he has a lot to offer. Let’s see what happens. I’d probably start Son-Dele-Bale and fully believe, in paper, that is our best attacking three but do understand the logic of Lamela or Lucas in there.

Really positive and enjoyable game but we had this in the away leg and then lost to West Ham.

It's all well and good some of these players turning it on against farmers but in the PL they aren't delivering.

Bale should definitely be first choice now. He has the x factor we need.

I'd play Alli behind Kane against Burnley, with the caveat that he really needs to show it in the PL again not just at this level. My main issue is Kane and Alli operating in the same spaces.

Winks still shows no quality even in games like this, which says it all. Everytime he has a chance to shoot or make a killer pass he invariably fucks it up. He should be running the show in games like this if he had anything about him (he doesn't).

Our defence still looks suspect, and Dier is a walking calamity even at this level.

Really enjoyable game but you can see the lack of quality in the same players as always. Burnley is where it matters, not tonight. Lamela, Alli, Bale etc, time to deliver in the PL....

Don't play against any other English team please... I wouldn't be able to take it again after CL final.

I think what we learned about Dane Scarlett today is similar to what we learned about Harry Kane when he was 18. It's not about their pace, physical strength or even technique. It's about their footballing intelligence.

I recall watching Kane at 18 seeing out a game by controlling the ball in the corner, along with the movement in the box that would leave defenders without needing the pace he didn't have yet.

The defender made a mistake tonight, but in part that was because Scarlett had closed off his option to play the ball wide. Then he snuck upon him at an angle, on the periphery of his vision, and nicked the ball as soon as the defender misplayed it. It ran for Vinicius and Scarlett got himself a deserved assist.

He followed up with a couple of really canny runs in the box - onside both times - but the ball did not come.

If we don't have a player thread for this young man, he deserves one.

He’s phenomenally good in the box, but his overall play is a bit lacking, particularly considering that he’s a decent passer, quick and all that . I’d happily keep him 40m is too much but I suspect they’d sell him for less, the issue is how much less? These Portuguese clubs are very happy to hold out for top dollar.
Well, Benfica are getting hammered at the moment and are in the middle of a crisis. There's a high chance they will have a fire sale this year as they need to bring in a new generation of players, so perhaps they will be happy to let him go for 20m or so.

Scarlett’s assist in the Europa league is the first one by a 166 year old since MBappe against us
