In which case I even more strongly disagree with his name being dropped so long before trial, a hearing like that involving someone of that kind of profile has to be kept under wraps as well as possible.

Guarantee as you said above that his attorneys will use the lack of fair trial argument, he's basically being tried, sentenced and all but executed on social media in this very moment.

Yeah I was just chatting with my gf about that. I'm of the opinion that in rape cases, whether the accused is male or female, they shouldn't be named until they are found guilty.

Just getting arrested for it can ruin your life.

Do they really need to mention “over 16”. It just adds fuel to the fire.

I’m guessing it’s because of the rumours about the Everton player that broke a few weeks ago. Just makes it clear that this isn’t underage stuff.

I’ve thought the same, the counter argument is that it brings other potential victims forward and makes convictions more likely. It’s a decision I’m glad I don’t have to make

I'd imagine legally they do as it separates what crime it is. Under 16 goes into children and that kind of territory which is a whole other thing.

Chelsea got money back from Mutu after his 7 month drugs ban.....£15 million. So there is precedent for clubs suing players for damages, although it has taken years.

He's just been ordered to pay it, and I think his last appeal in 2019 failed - but I don't think he's paid them

Fucking hell talk about having a difficult couple of days.

Can't get Kane.
Left back gets banged up(sort of) surely Ronaldo can't go there now considering his history and the current media focus.
Draw PSG and Liepzeg in the CL.

If you thought the conspiracy theories on BM were crazy yesterday...........

I was thinking they'd see the 2nd one as bad news, but judging what they were saying about him before this came out, they're probably seeing it at the opposite

You say that but it's not like they can move him on now, and I doubt they can replace him in the squad so they are now stuck paying a shit LB who is taking up a non home grown squad space.

He won't take up a squad space if he ends up unavailable to play, as they just won't register him. Either way, they (as fans) won't need to worry about the money side. They'll either take it on the chin, or sack him. Transfer fee is a bit of a crapper, as he cost more than walker, but he's only played on average around 17 games per season since he went there 4 years or so ago, so it works out to around £750k per game if they do sack him.

Their squad building is a bit odd, though, as they're now stacked in midfield, with two big holes in the squad at LB and CF.

Just had a quick skim of BM’s Mendy thread. They all seem shocked and want him released, but a few are asking why they’ve been playing the guy against Leicester and Spurs, as well as featuring him in promotional material.

Innocent until proven guilty and all that, but if they knew this was coming down the track, you’d have thought they’d have kept him out the team and photos etc.

Surely they would have had an idea especially with that report November last year? Surprised they weren't more prepared for it. Unless Mendy is adamant he is innocent and it's all made up or something and convinced the club of that.

Doubt the club (Man C) would have known about it until he was arrested. Three separate complainants too. Innocent until proven guilty and all that - could be part of an extortion (but unlikely).

If he’s guilty they could sack him I presume. But they’ll be paying his wages until the verdict. Could take months.

Agreed. My first reading of 4 offenses and 3 over 16s, to me hinted that 1 was under 16.

Further reading suggests it's 3 victims in total and 1 has made 2 allegations. The words used didn't convey the clarity required

How do these footballers make soooooooooo much money and still have to resort to this??? There must be some hard proof for this surely, otherwise maybe it could be a setup. I can't imagine footballers to be that thick....then again

Rape isn't normally about wanting sex. As you say, getting sex obviously wouldn't be difficult for him, he wouldn't have to 'resort to' this. It's about power, control and violation for rapist scumbags. The victim suffering is the point.
