He definitely wasn't playing to their strengths. And suddenly they look much better.
And the excuse before Jose is? They were both poor for Poch too after promising starts to their careers here and have been for some time now.

How many players were we happy to jettison before Poch arrived? Walker, Rose, Dembele maybe even Jan, they'd underperformed with a few managers.

We have close to 7 million posts on here. Go find me one where someone wanted to get rid of any of them under AVB. We've enough idiots on here you'll probably manage it! Suggesting that we were clamouring to get rid of Dembeleat any stage is just re-writing history.

Over the moon if we get Emerson over the line. Can't pretend I know much about him but an attacking right back is a must.

If we get Traore too then the club deserve huge credit

Big job for Nuno though trying to reintegrate N'dombele.

This is my main issue. We've had years of seeing how shit they both are, how badly they cost us in key moments, yet a couple of ok performances and suddenly they're reborn?

No. They're not good enough. Neither is Winks.

I think there is some hope for Sanchez.

But Dier and Winks are miles off regular first teamers for a side in and around the top 4.

I think with Gil coming in and Kane staying I wasn't expecting too much change in attack. Scarlett needs to be given opportunities.
However, if we don't add an extra option in midfield then I worry. We all know that Hojbjerg became overworked and tired. If one of him or Skipp get injured we may have to rely on Winks. It also then comes down to how much Ndombele wants it.

We either need to add a midfielder with a bit of creativity/tempo setter or an attacker who can draw out defenders.

Of course, Rome wasn't built in a day and I don't think most people expected a full rebuild. But I did hope that we'd add some steel and a bit more creativity. If Emerson comes then the defence seems to be sorted for now. But we know we will come up against stubborn defences and I'm not sure we have the answers for that.

Need another key in there.

-Kept Kane
-Replaced Alderweireld with Romero
-Managed to swap Lamela for a highly rated youngster in Gil
-Signed another highly rated kid in Pape Sarr
-About to replace Aurier with a superior player in Emerson
-Could still sign another forward in the next 24 hours

Great transfer window - club with a plan.

That is a Gooner's take on our window so far on Arsemania. They've spent £130m and are in meltdown over their window.

You could add the fact we got money for Sissoko, signed Son to a longer contract and have brought Lloris' replacement. All in one window. And it hasn't closed yet.

this is a really well considered summary of our summer window. Given the distraction of the Kane saga, the priority for us was shifting deadwood on and starting to reshape the squad, plus keeping Kane and Son and here we are with both.

the rebuild was never going to happen quickly, so I think decent steps forward have been made. Yes, we need more first team quality added. But I think it’s important to judge it based on all of these factors.

Another window where we all think its going to be different and its exactly the same. We may have acquired some young exciting talent but that doesn't deal with the creativity issues we have in midfield or the defence being weak. We bring in a DOF and its been mediocre.

We want to be in the Champions League and this window yet again proves we have midtable aspirations

The negativity is astonishing here. We started the rebuild by getting rid of players like sissoko and lamela, all of that while bringing exciting european talent and amidst the manager hunt that was chaotic and all the Kane drama. Sure, it wasn’t a 9/10 window as we are still short with offensive options, but it sure wasn’t a horrible window like some here try to make. For his first window it has been most pros than cons for the Don, i’m optimistic for the future.
Too many Fifa football managers on here, schools are back this week, should help with the immature outlook some posters are bringing to the site today.

Huge pinch of salt for this guy I think - he’s spent the last two months saying Tomiyasu was done subject to a medical…
Let’s hope he’s wrong and we get all the necessary business done!

Mate it ain't happening. 3 weeks to go...its going to heat up. 2 weeks to go it's gonna take off now. 1 week to go. The final push now.
Final weekend.... well this is our defining moment.
2 days to go...it's going to be hectic.

My view is a transfer happens when it happens. It's the reality of the situation. I didn't expect all our issues to be fixed at once. New DOF and manager needs time with the squad to fix the issues.

Their fault. Sorry, it's such a load of bullshit. "Internet person told me we'd sign [X] and [Y] and now we haven't and I'm annoyed."

Why?

Take the information with a pinch of salt, especially as to expectations rather than a done deal. Surely the management procurement process taught everyone that if it wasn't obvious from the last 10 years - and wasn't explicitly set out in our forum guidelines.

No guarantees are given here. And the only person responsible for raising expectations is that individual.
i for one do not take any internet rumor very seriously. howver we do see the facts though:

Do we have replacement for Bale/vinicius? No
Have we bought a new nr 10 since Eriksen left? No

Those are crucial areas we need a player/replacement, specially a creative one, and no ITK or rumor would have changed that in my opinion.

If we would have waited until the last week of the window to make all of those moves people would be creaming themselves over this window.

Herc said he expects 1 more along with Emerson, be interesting to see who it could be, I’m not in meltdown mode yet, think this could still be a good window

I wasn’t expecting a full rebuild in one window. If we sign Emerson, who is a clear upgrade on Aurier then I will say its been a good window. A great window if we can then add either a striker/Traore or a Damsgaard/Aouar

If we can’t ship Aurier off and therefore can’t sign Emerson then I will say its a disappointing one. Think that’s rational

I think it's critical to remember how much the wage bill has been reduced from outgoing players and staff, including Mourinho. The loan market for players is an area Paratici will be well aware of. Currently, the club likely has the wage flexibility to bring at least 2 players who are out of favor at the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid. Imagine if we signed Pjanic and Jovic on loan tomorrow. To me, that's where we should be looking. There's also Countinho, Lenglet and perhaps there are a few others who could move, too.

Also, there still are players with contracts expiring in Italy that could be made available. Insigne and Belotti are two such options.

Given that the club decided to keep Kane and not do a full rebuild, it would make a lot of sense to target older players on loan for a one year push for Champions League football. Pjanic, Jovic, Coutinho and Lenglet all would get plenty of match time. Pjanic and Coutinho would have a decent chance of being first choice in attack with Kane and Son. Lenglet would get plenty of starts with Romero and Sanchez away in the coming months for international duty. Jovic would be a phenomenal back-up striker and could play alongside Kane, too.

The Emerson deal is critical, because right back is tougher to sort in the loan market than the attacking positions. So, while I appreciate the ITK, I have faith in Paratici's experience and contacts to not leave the club short given the options available via loan.

Just over 24 hours to go of agreeing passionately with or getting royally irked at strangers on the internet, of engaging in types of behaviour I frequently counsel my kids against. What a cock wattle I am.

Now, who wants a fucking row?

Thanks for the ITK updates over the window Herc, Trix and others. Gives a lot of insight into the priorities of management, and how things are playing out.

I’m sure I’ll get neg-repped for this, but if we only bring in Emerson on top of what we have done so far, this cannot be deemed a good window. We haven’t added any of a second striker, a creative midfielder, that additional wide player, and a second central defender after Romero.

The chase for Traore was left too late. We did not seem to push for the central creative CM besides going after what ended up as a very dodgy deal in Moriba. Now that we are not spending those $20MM+ On Moriba, where we were not requiring an out to justify the in, we could have used that elsewhere. Given that we are short in creativity/ chance creation, as evidenced our games thus far, you’d think those would have been priorities these last weeks. I recognize this is a project with Paratici, and we need to give him more time, but I can understand the disappointment in here.

Needless to say, let’s see what the last 24h brings us. Nuno has us playing well, let’s hope that without additions he can find a way for us to generate more goal-scoring chances. If he does we should have a good season pushing for top 4.
