I think Raphinia has a contract until 2024. Unless Leeds go down he'd cost a lot and they won't be looking to sell. Saint-Maximin won't be sold now Newcastle have their money.

Traore's contract is winding down. He's much more obtainable.
Traore for me is very dependant on the type of tactics Nuno settles into. Son Kane Traore does seem very tantalising on the counter attack.

If he isn't too expensive, would be a good squad addition regardless

What does everyone think of Diers position?

For me I think we should be looking at an upgrade, assuming Romero is the other long term CB this new player will be paired with, I think we should look to find a homegrown lad to play with him.

Humor me and think of the top CB partnerships of recent memory. Vidic - Rio . Carvalho - Terry . Stones - Dias. Well, the last ones a little tongue in cheek, but they all have a British player next to a more cultured player and my thinking is that this is important for communication reasons as well as home grown quota.

So, who could we target? Tarkowski? Keane? I'm not sure .

Should have kept that centre forward we had last season (can’t remember he’s name )
The fact you can’t even remember Vinicius’ name probably vindicates the club’s decision not to sign him. He reportedly would’ve cost us over 30m and his performances did not remotely justify that price tag.

iirc the buying option was 45m

Onuachu scores for fun, and gets a lot of attention for his 6' 7" frame. Think he would be perfect off the bench or a plan B a la Llorente style, but he actually can move haha.
He came from my local team in Denmark.

That's a big no from me.

If Lo Celso can't do it it looks like first priority is someone to play if PEH or Skipp aren't there.

Then it's another striker. I think Scarlett has a chance but just now playing through the middle isn't the best idea. It's not unusual for younger players, mostly defenders or attackers, to get games in wider positions to find their way in senior football.

Realistically we're going to buy one first team player who will be ready to perform this season and he needs to be available. This is why I prefer Traore.

We have a lot of areas to improve on but I doubt we'll find the right centre back or striker in January.

I would rather spend £45m on Raphinha than £30m on Traore (and move on players like Bergwijn, Dele and Winks ASAP). Sometimes you need to show some real ambition and spend big if you really want to improve your XI.

Think it’ll cost far more then £45 million to get Raphinha, he starts for Brazil, relatively young so not even at his peak.
We’ve missed the boat with him I feel

No-one is getting Raphinha for anything less than £60m+

Plus much bigger clubs than us are interested.

Remains to be seen whether any club will actually offer £45-50m for him though. We definitely should at least try it, nothing to lose.

And it might be true that for instance Liverpool are interested as well, but it's far from certain that he would start week in week out for them given the alternatives, at Spurs he certainly would.

We obviously should've signed Danny Ings. It's so mind blowingly obvious and would've solved so many problems and created so many tactical options for the manager. Such a shame we couldn't compete with the financial might of Man City sorry I mean Aston Villa.

The only way I could see Raphinha happening is if Leeds were willing to accept Winks or Dele in p/ex.

Which seems unlikely.

I can't see us dropping big bucks (£20m+) on any single player in January sadly

Bergwijn + 20 mil is what I'd offer. They won't do it though

Leeds are (at least currently) in a relegation scrap, there's absolutely no chance they'll be open to selling their best player in January. If we want Raphinha the only chance would be in the summer.

Or Daka. Or even Eduoard given how cheap he eventually went for.

There were so many options all summer and we passed on all of them, and now it's biting us in the arse.

It's really so bizarre. I try to see the logic in it, during the conversations had between Levy, Paratici and Hitchen where they concluded that going into 4 competitions with 1 striker WAS a good idea. When that striker has a history of fitness issues and also doesn't want to be at the club. And that Son COULD fill in for Kane when Kane was rested and nobody suggesting that Son will inevitably also need to be rested so that makes no sense. And that throwing Dane Scarlett into games that he palpably isn't ready for and endangering his development WAS smart.

But there is no logic unless they're just thick as fuck. I mean we weren't even trying to buy a striker unless Kane left. We didn't think it was an issue AT ALL.
