Or we are happy we got Emerson as he is probably more suited to play RWB than Tomiyasu.

For the RCB we have Sanchez, Tanganga, Rodon. I guess it is fine for now.
Should’ve got both. I don’t think it was one of Emerson or Tomiyasu. I think we didn’t get Tomiyasu because Tanganga had a great game against City. Think he’s shown since that, whilst he has great potential, he’s not fully there yet and a loan would do him good.

No we should have gotten someone who injects creativity and goal threat further up front. Thats the biggest areas not addressed.
We did very well with upgrading the defense in the summer. More was always rather fantasy in my eyes.

Paratici has just ruled out an y January transfers in the pre game press conference apparently

Edit: Turns out he didn't say that exactly and it's just ropey reporting

That would mean you are happy with the defence now then? No need to replace Dier and Sanchez?
Yes we need to sign creative players but Tomiyasu was a no brainer and not expensive.

Paratici absolutely said the right thing. You want to put across that you and essentially the new manager believes in the current set of players, not that they feel they need other players to acheive anything, even if that is the case.

Not necessarily happy but we are not the kind of club that has the funds to fix all issue in one window. The bigger need is surely up front, the scored goals and created chances show you. I still think we have kind of decent players with Rodon and Tanganga who struggle right now to get into the matchday squad.

Next summer I'd be all up for a de Vrij/ Skriniar type-signing. Whatever Conte wants though.

Let's see but this manager has a history of improving players.

And a small point but dier already played as a centre back in a top four team.
It's a very small point given that Dier didn't play CB for us properly until Mourinho came in and we haven't been a top 4 during that time. If anything Dier moving to CB coincided with us becoming a non top 4 team.

Not a big fan of Eric but coming for his defense. He was playing around 30 times CB in 16/17 when we finished 2nd....

That's simply not true.

Jan played 33 PL games for us that season and Toby played 30 PL games. We never played with 3 CBs in that season so how did Dier manage 30 games at CB?

Granted he made 36 PL appearances but that was a mix of DM, RB and CB with some starts and some cameos.

edit:
before i get more disagrees I was wrong above - Dier played 23 PL games and 8 cup games at CB, 13 PL games and 7 cup games at DM. Turns out no games at RB though. Spurs played a back 3 in only 9 games that season.

Fair do, double checked it and he did make 20 starts at CB that season. Fucking weird I don't remember that... I remember Jan and Toby being our main 2 CBs.

We played 3cb almost all of that season.

We basically went with either:

Lloris
Dier Alderweireid Vertonghen
Walker Wanyama Dembele Rose
Eriksen Dele
Kane

Or

Lloris
Dier Alderweireid Vertonghen
Walker Wanyama Eriksen Rose
Dele Son
Kane

Wasn't that the year Toby did his hamstring against madrid which put him out of action for three months?

IMO Rodon and Tanganga haven't had a fair chance, against Palace they were brilliant before the red

Also Tanganga has only been conceded 3 goals in 366 mins of PL footy, all in 45mins in one bad game. His first 4 games of the season, we didn't concede one goal

Rodon done well but never really been given a proper opportunity

True. They maybe are no world beaters and not the deal to win the league, but I think they are good enough to do a solid job for us right now. At least every here and then.
They were mostly decent when they played.

Can see a CB and finally a midfield controller coming in January. Be surprised if its much more. Perhaps more attacking talent in the summer.
