Emerson was bought for a defensive coach. But he can’t defend.

Emerson was left as first choice RB under a coach who needs attacking full backs. But he can’t cross or dribble.

Seems like an overpriced recruitment fail. Again.
Based on his performance tonight he looks like a dud. But I have seen him defend a lot better - Don't get me wrong I think he was the worst player on the park but I don't think he was helped by Sanchez who after being praised by Conte pre-match had a fucking stinker, Lucas who just never supported or a central midfield pairing that were just meh.

We all know this is a rebuild and we are still way short. We are targeting a CM, RWB, CB and a forward in the Summer. Today that was exactly where we struggled. Sanchez, Royal, Winks and PEH were all poor. Can't get Diet and Skipp back quick enough, and people laughed a couple of weeks back when I said Doherty was far better than Royal and should be starting, thoughts now?
Thoughts now?

neither are good enough and the man in charge of recruitment wasted 45 million on them and when it was knowingly the case that they weren’t good enough for Contes system we did nothing about it.

Thought we had a great chance of top 4 before tonight.

Now...not so sure.
I'm a little worried yeah.

A win would have meant we go above Arsenal, knock United's confidence and ensure that WH could soon be well behind us.

If we can beat Wolves then it won't seem so bad but that was real opportunity to put ourselves in a situation in which we are very strong and the others are probably more nervous about us too.

And Aurier before that
I think Aurier would have stayed, and flourished had Conte come in. Massively underrated full back. Shame really but he was always going to leave with a year left. Still, paying him off seems really dumb now considering we could have just kept him around when he would have left for free anyway.

Hasenhuttl just said it.
Southampton continued to play their game but you see it when Spurs score, ‘they go back’ ‘they are not as active’

I have never seen a team that has two completely different ways of playing for when we’re level/ahead or losing.

Why do we only play progressive football when we’re behind.
Just play.
Not all out crazy attack.
Just go forwards, press be active.

Fed up of watching us surrender possession and sit back when we’re ahead, at home, and or against a lower side.

Just doesn’t make any sense
We seem addicted to the myth of deep-lying slow possession as a means of control. It's going to take longer, and more changes to the team, to drill this out of us from the dinosaur years of the "low block"

Targets are our targets, I'm sure we'll be happy in the Summer regardless of top four, which is still in our hands.
Well hopefully they come regardless of what position we finish because it’s clear we are nowhere near the required level. Not that it’s any surprise tbf.

Was pretty clear for all to fucking see that RWB was an absolute PRIORITY position in January and watching Emerson play “football” today only proves that Paratici is a fucking clown. Unbelievably negligent that we’ve allowed the window to pass with no changes in that position when Conte’s entire philosophy relies on two competent wing backs.
Have to say I don’t entirely blame FP on Royal as he came in under whatever the Nuno experiment was, if anything I blame DL for not getting Conte in the first place because we’d have saved ourselves a shed load of cash and actually had players on board who fit conte’s plans as opposed to not hiring who we should have in the first instance then appointing him six months later.
Bloody ridiculous that we’re now stuck with a lad who’s looking like his confidence is shot and who doesn’t fit how Conte sets up.
Winks can hopefully jog on at the end of the season along with Dave whilst we’re at it.

Our worst signing since the previous right back we bought! I bet Barcelona couldn’t believe their luck that we offered actual real money for him.

Absolute rubbish. Romero is a class above all our defenders. His composure, passing, stepping out aggressively is leaps and bounds better than everyone else.

Love the match threads when we lose, reminds me of the "Lets all laugh about ----- " threads we have when we take the piss out of other fans when they freak out and call all their players shit after a loss.

If you watched the game it's clear where we went wrong I cba to point it all out as i've had a few but getting a bit annoying how some of you flit between loving players when they have a good game and calling them out as shit when they have a bad game. Gets boring
If you read what I said, I said I’m not saying he’s a bad player but that was not a great performance and simply comparing his performance to Royal, Sanchez and Davies efforts as a benchmark does not mean he was particularly good.

where do I say he was shit?

I’m not singling him out because the whole team were awful with nobody more than a 5/10 other than Loris.

Not sure why but Southampton played like absolute demons against us in both games this season. So much aggression. They deserved it tonight. Watch them roll over for Utd at the weekend now.

Hoping this was just a particularly bad day at the office. So sloppy throughout. The one positive is that we created enough chances that if we defended better we could have won the game still. On top of the two good goals scored we had two massive chances from Kane and Reggie that should have gone in.

Conte has to figure out this midfield situation soon, need to find the right personnel to control games under pressure. We can't fall to pieces every time we come up against a high press.

On to Wolves now. Must win game against tricky opposition. COYS.

Hojbjerg and Winks should never play in a midfield two. They might work in a three but if Conte thought Bentancur wasn't ready we didn't really have anything else available.

We all know that with this squad and a few players missing that this performance is not a total surprise. Maybe a little more under conte but he can't turn all players in to good ones. When bentancur came on, he really showed us what a good midfielder can do. I just hope that conte stays next season and we give him what he needs as if any half decent champions league team needs a manager come summer they will be looking at conte

Interesting how Hasenhuttl said in his post match interview that they knew Spurs would sit back after scoring because it is what we always do so the moment we went ahead they would have chances if they press.

agree, especially when we are so bad at it - we can't get near teams, we just get dominated and concede. We need to play on the front foot more because teams have figured us out and simply press us. Also we go backwards far too much, its almost like it is the first option which needs to change.

Conte was not keen on Traore!

So why TF were we after him? That whole scenario sums up our transfer dealings for the last 20 years.

Pointlessly chase a player the manager doesn't want whilst insulting the selling club with derisory offers, all the time frittering away days the window.

Which ever way we look at it we’re years away from winning much and even at 56 I now never believe I’ll see us win the league in my lifetime and to be really honest I doubt I’ll see us anything worthwhile either.
I so, so, so want to be wrong. ??
Just so we're absolutely clear about this, how long do you think you have left?
