I understand the moral high ground in contrast to Real Madrid’s history, but my first proper exposure to Barca was the 1983 Super Cup which was one of the more horrific, cynical and petulant performances I have ever seen. Disliked them ever since:

Are you meaning the 1982 Super Cup v Aberdeen ?

The semi final of the cup winners cup at WHL was one of the worst displays of shithousery I have ever seen.

And yet we see Bernardo Silva and Marcos Alonso apparently more than willing to be part of the sham.

I can't understand how the pull of the club name can still outweigh the absolute shitstorm they would be walking into.
Can only guess that they just want to be able to say “I played for Barca” and with the talk of Mess going back “I played with Messi.”

In way it’s all very romantic and old fashioned. Usually we’re complaining about these guys only being motivated by money.

Barca are acting like complete bastards though, and surely anyone going there accepts that their likely to get their arse burnt.

They're both from near there (Spanish and Portugese) so a large part of this for those two is going back home and playing for one of the 'biggest' clubs back home.

It's also the idea that from the outside it's a shitstorm and all that, but all their agents and entourage will keep telling them it's fine and they'll all back themselves to be fine. They'll be 'promised' huge amounts of money and so many of these players assume and feel that nothing bad will happen to them.

TLDR: They're homesick and possibly a little naive

The 1982 Super Cup was Barca vs. Villa. Yes, Barca kicked Villa's players all over the park, like they had done to ours a few months earlier.

Aberdeen played Hamburg in the 1983 edition.

Let's face it, they all have more money than you could shake a stick at. Of course they'll want to negotiate colossal wages and stuff and Barca will keep on with their profligate spending but that's the World they live in. I have no sympathy for Barcelona or any player who's stupid enough to sign for them

So they managed to sign everyone except Kounde. Had to look it up as I didn't see it mentioned on here.

Newcomers Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, Franck Kessie and Andreas Christensen are now officially registered with La Liga, along with Sergi Roberto and Ousmane Dembele, who both signed contract extensions this summer.
Wonder which palanca they plan on pulling to get Kounde registered. Not to mention how they're planning on getting Marcos Alonso all squared away. I'm really curious to see what kind of money Christensen and Kessie are on, seeing that they were on frees.

In any business or walk of life imagine giving away 25% of future earnings on your main revenue stream for the next 25 years for a short term loan. What an utterly ludicrous decision. Barca will never go bust as they will always find away even if the government have to back them. But what a shambles of a club.
