Watching them wipe the floor with Valladolid now, and Sociedad last week, makes me wonder if this insanity might actually work.

They look very good. The CL group will be the acid test though.

Xavi needs to stop messing about and put players in the right positions.

Kounde at RB last night and Dembele at WB last week is silly.

Also what is the point of Torres?

It might work short term, but I don't see how it's even remotely sustainable. Surely they'll just see the same issues year on year. How long can they keep the wolf from the door by cashing in on future income?

They are making the assumption that revenue growth is achievable.

Very high risk, especially considering we are about to hit a major global recession.

Tough to see this happen.

Come again? Yes it's an actual news source.

Here's another one

I'm wasn't doubting the truth of the story. Given his Arsenal connections and general reputation, it was this bit that gave me pause:

Meant no disrespect. Simply saying it's hard to see people getting tied up and beaten up like this whether they are famous or not. Maybe I worded it wrong for you.

I wasn't sure if you were truly sympathetic or not, especially with the Arsenal connection, you know, in a 'hate it see it...' kind of way. Maybe I'm just exhibiting my lack of empathy.

Silly question but does the cost of the contract termination come into consideration on their wages / transfer outlay side?

It’s a cost involved with the playing side so you’d think that it would but I’m guessing as it’s Barca they’ve been able to wriggle out of it like they have with De Jongs deferred wages (which should also be taken into costs)

I do wonder whether they’d be susceptible to behind closed door shenanigans - who’s to say that another large Spanish club could maybe suggest to tv companies that they’d them a better deal if they don’t give a good as deal to Barca? Very conspiratorial but as you’ve both suggested they seem to be running out of wriggle room, and other parties good will might not be as forthcoming as they expect.

The situation between Barca and Atletico over Griezmann is becoming comical. They have consistently subbed him on just after the 60th minute to avoid triggering the games played clause that would require them to buy him for 40m. Barca are now threatening to sue while Atletico has responded saying their lawyers are confident that the contract language is iron clad.

Its kind of brazen but Atletico aren't breaking the contract, Barca can't do anything about it.

Just seen that Barca are playing a friendly tonight against Man City :wideyed:

How can teams complain about fixture congestion yet still arrange extra friendlies outside the usual schedule

I thought the same as you initially, but apparently it was a charity game that was originally arranged in the off-season, but was postponed because of covid.

If the language is iron clad Barca can get fucked.

If Atleti are feeling really generous they might try to negotiate for a smaller fee but why should they?
