In any business or walk of life imagine giving away 25% of future earnings on your main revenue stream for the next 25 years for a short term loan. What an utterly ludicrous decision. Barca will never go bust as they will always find away even if the government have to back them. But what a shambles of a club.
Doubt the Spanish government will back Barca the way they have real tbh

Apparently (BBC Sport) they now want Messi back. Can't afford to pay their current wages but still want to add Messi on top :ROFLMAO:

The Catalan government have helped them out.
Think newham council and West Ham.
That’s not quite the point that was originally made though.
But I do understand and appreciate the nuances.
Either way, the financial situation is so public that I think it would be hard to get away with it.

Just read the reason Barca want to sell FDJ is because they haven't paid him all his salary and he won't accept a 25% reduction. Apparently they are leaking stories to the fans that branthwaite won't leave and he's preventing Kounde from being registered. That club management are a real piece of shit

I really don't understand the logic of Real Madrid and Barcelona in persisting to negotiate their own TV deals. Surely if they took the same approach as the EPL and negotiated the deals as part of the league they would eventually get more money.

Am I missing something here?

Why would they get more money? They are 99% of the attraction of La Liga. Having to split that with all the other clubs would reduce their share.

But Real and Barca don't want a rising tide that lifts all boats. The status quo sees them make the most money and keeps down all other clubs. Atletico might win the odd league title but they'll never supplant Real or Barca as the current financial structure in Spanish football prevents it.

I believe La Liga do negotiate collectively now, I think it changed a couple of years ago. Real and Barcelona still pick up the lions share, but nothing like it used to be.

I'm glad the PL has been able to keep a mostly even distribution of TV money. It has clearly helped make the league stronger which helps the big clubs in the long run.

I also think that this will eventually lead to complete dominance by English teams in European Competitions as well.

Not immediately but eventually the product would improve and they would benefit

Just seen that Barca are playing a friendly tonight against Man City :wideyed:

How can teams complain about fixture congestion yet still arrange extra friendlies outside the usual schedule

It's raising money for ALS after a Barca coach was diagnosed with it. My guess is it will be a pretty low intensity match.

There will still be some benefits to them no doubt. They wouldn't do anything that doesn't earn them some money. Now I hope Citeh will drop points in their next PL game.
