No, Loris is a World Cup winning captain. You don’t become one of those unless you’re very good.
Dino Zoff was a World Cup winning captain, but I am sure he’d struggle if you put him in goal today. Times move on players get older, Lloris has been great for us but he is becoming a liability. Still a great shot stopper (most of the time) but struggles with all the other aspects of goalkeeping in today’s game.

100% would improve us

but then Forster would as well

Raya, too short for me personally, solid keeper but I’d go with someone as good with his feet but bigger reach etc.

pickford fits that mould, leads from the back too.

hendwrson or Sanchez if looking for a bit of development too

Ah, I’m not going by wiki mate, he’s barely 6ft and for a keeper that ain’t tall enough.

pretty sure Pickford was 6’2 ish

But haven’t checked either, just know that Raya is short on the keeping side and if Jordan is 185, still pretty short too, all we do at home is watch and analyse goalkeeping as that’s what my lads trying to be

Ffs too short, don't command area, not a good shot stopper etc etc have you nothing better to do? Lloris was a fantastic keeper, he's now too old, its natural progression. New keeper needed, still love and respect Hugo! Its easy ffs

This a thousand times, he has been unreal.

time catching up on him, and even now still makes unbelievable saves (which he did yesterday too)

Offer me JP right now I'd rip your arm off.

However, if it's going to happen.. it won't be for 18mo - next summer at the latest, when his contract is up. if Everton stay up he'll go for more money, but Everton selling him when they're at risk of relegation. No way.. Either way would he want to come to us? We're a shit show right now.

Any talk is purely that, paper gossip to get some clicks.

I take my info from Transfermarkt , which is rock solid for player profile.
Like it or not, Pickford is only 2cm taller than Raya...

Raya been in English league for 8 years now, and height never been a issue in championship or PL.

It’s not solid on that website mate.

they have my sons date of birth wrong for a start and they also state he has a football agent on there, which he doesn’t.

Transfermarkt data is added & maintained by its users (in most cases paid users scouts sports PR agencies etc). So, no idea who updated your sons info - probably someone close. I assume he is quite new in system.

So...data of internationals are maintained by professional agencies & sports companies. They dont get their data wrong.

Once again, height has never been mentioned as a issue for Raya

I can only go by my preference in goalkeepers.
I’m not doubting Ray is quality and he is fantastic with his feet, as is Pickford, I’d argue that Raya is probably a better ball playing keeper.

but my preference would be a taller keeper, be it 1cm or 10cm, it’s still a risk minimised by that extra reach or height etc (both have very good jumping power too).

technically speaking, couldn’t split them, but what trumps it for me, is the communication side, so yeah, extra height and comms is my preference

So you want a robot, not a human. Literally made 4 errors leading to goals in the last 3 seasons I think it was. That’s literally as good as it gets as far as being reliable as a goalkeeper. I can remember Allison making several this season alone but he’s still the worlds best goalkeeper
Precisely.

Even Schmeichel who is arguably the best goalkeeper to have played in the Premier League made the odd silly mistake that led to a goal. And United in their pomp still used to get an unexpected thrashing every now and again even with him in goal. The difference is that elite goal keepers do this only a couple of times a season. Not every other game!

Pickford would be an excellent choice.

I’d take Pickford in a heartbeat over this current version of Lloris.

If Everton go down, probably the most sensible option.

These last 2 points sun up the difficulty in playing in goal.

such a scrutinised position and fans demand absolute perfection every single time.

outfield players mis place a pass, or miss a shot, fine, keeper does it, goal.

I see the effort that goes into training every single aspect of being a keeper on a daily basis, ridiculously technical position to play

I thought we should have gone for Pope when Burnley went down and started the transition this year. But, I doubt we could have offered him the wages Newcastle did/would.

Well he is 80, so his reflexes will have slowed.

I've always loved Hugo and have defended him to high heaven in the past, but the fact that such silly mistakes are happening far more often, it's getting hard to defend.

Throughout his whole career with us you could always argue his poor feet and distribution and the odd mistake were far out weighed from his incredible shot stopping, he's still probably earned us more points than he has cost us over all these years, but it's happening more frequently now so we need to upgrade.

Especially the way we set up with Conte, we absolutely NEED and keeper comfortable on the ball, it will make so much difference.

for that reason alone I think Pickford would be a great choice, attainable, shouldn't cost an arm and a leg either.
