Today Zokora showed great character. I know he did one error, but overall a good performance today.

He can play a good game in so many different positions that he's a very important member of the squad. Right now I thinkhim, Hudd and Jenas are the best CM we have.

Zokora had a good game today.

His main problem seems to be that he's quite good at a lot of things, but not great at any of them. Which means that he always looks both useful and a liability.

He covers a lot of ground but his positional sense isn't always great.
He tackles a lot but tends to give away a lot of free-kicks.
He's great running with the ball at his feet but mostly fails to pass to a team-mate at the end of it.
He can wallop the ball but can't keep it on target.

The reason he's such a divisive player (for fans) is because he's clearly not totally rubbish. But he's never really good enough, particularly compared with other defensive midfielders in the Premiership. I always think that if the coach could only find his perfect position, he'd be great.

I'm not his biggest fan (I don't see the need to keep slagging him off either), but he was probably man of the match for me today. In the first half (when the game was won) he and Huddlestone totally bossed the midfield, making Parker and... Mullins was it?, look very ordinary. Which they are of course, but you know what I mean.

Watching Portsmouth beat Man U yesterday it was noticable that Diarra was/is in a differnt class to Zokora.

I would agree that people calling him shit and or dire are being extreme, he isnt that bad its just that he isnt (or hasnt been) that good either.

Id agree that the price tag raises peoples expectations for him, although I would say that is reasonable also.... while it isnt the players for how much was spent on him, it stands to reason that fans would expect more of an 8m player then a free transfer or a low cost player.

So he isn't a dire player after all then? Or does that change from game to game? I'm so confused.........

He is one of our most consistent and hardworking players. He never lets his head drop and never hides.

No he is not the greatest player to have ever played the game but he is far from being the worst.

He gets loads of stick because he came in to replace Carrick which he clearly cannot do, but that is not his problem or his fault. He is the kind of steady player that you miss when he does not play.

People who say that he is not better than Michael Brown should leave the crack pipe alone and try watching the game when not high. Browny is a committed player but has no ability at all, Zokora can read the game and has the pace to do his job.

There are a number of players in our team that do a worse job than Zokora but do not get as much stick. I reckon that of those who may be leaving in the summer, Zokora is not among them. Jol picked him, the Ivory Coast manager picks him and Ramos picks him, I think I will take their judgement as being more reflective of the player's ability and worth to the team.

i think zokora was supposed to be a great midfielder and even known as an enforcer very defensively able mid in france, but their level of football is not quite as intense as the prem.(although even the prem has become less intense in recent years)

so he is not as good defensively and positionally now as he was before..

so what!?

i think once we remove the defensive mid shackles from zokora we will see the real deal. or you could say to him ''you are free to roam wherever you wish'' and you just know, he would get just about everywhere.

That's the thing, he's good at anything that doesn't involve any actual football talent. As in he runs around a lot, gets in the way something, and can break up play ok. But to be honest, other than his athleticism, he isn't better than any of our other midfield options. His passing is average, his shooting is woeful, his tackling can be good but he gives away too many free kicks. Tainio, who I think is more efficient, lacks Zokora's pace but is in my opinion much better at breaking up play, less likely to give away silly fouls, and although his passing isn't phenomenal, he keeps it simple and gives the ball to our more attacking players. And he doesn't always try, and fail, to shoot.

He had a decent game today but I just don't think he's any better than any of our other midfielders.

and then think again.

And no, Tainio doesn't keep it simple. Still got our first cup game against the Chavs last season recorded somewhere? If so, watch it again (if you can bear it) and see how many times he needlessly gives the ball away in the second half.
