Dont have to be a genius to see its relavent to both dont you agree?

No its really not. As others have pointed out, great players often play for teams not deemed as top clubs. That doesnt mean they arent very good players. For instance, we have had Kane and Son for many seasons and only now it looks like Kane will be off.

This is outrageous for a top 6 team!
It’s also a massively skewed “statistic” we didn’t need to spend on defenders for the majority of that list. We had one of the best defences in the league with Toby and Jan. It wasn’t until the end of the 19/20 season that it was clear they were reaching the point where they needed replacement. We’d even spent quite heavily on rotation options in Sanchez and Foyth.

It’s clear we need to invest heavily in the defence. But this whole narrative that’s been built around that tweet is fucking bullshit.

We have Romero who most of our fans think is a very good defender. He wasn’t a bargain buy or a cheapo opportunistic “Levy special.” He was defender of the year when we bought him.

I think we have all come to realise that we will be going to Brentford with 2 from Romero Davies and Dier . Probably the home game with Man Utd a week later .

we are going to be scrapping around come deadline day for a lenglet type signing or the man himself .

Simply no excusing it, as much as some try to, to the very end 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yep. Lenglet just waiting in the wings reminds me of the backup car on top gear

Except for those who have cited to, ‘wait until the end of the window’ & thereby subconsciously excused the failure, to sign CB’s currently.

(The neg reps prove the guilty party 🤷🏼‍♀️)
What mate? They’ve not subconsciously excused anything. They’re just saying it’s maybe not an amazing idea to get angry about something that is still possible.

You’re missing the point, I’m saying it’s not acceptable that we STILL haven’t brought in any CB’s.

Sure we might sign some later on, but that doesn’t excuse the fact that, it should have addressed a LOT sooner.

Telling someone to ‘wait until the end of the window’, is therefore coming from a POV where they are relaxed about the situation, which imo is mind boggling, but each to their own 👍🏼

Why havent ENIC drawn down that remaining £50 million from last summer to buy him or Tapsoba. They could do, but havent, which tells me they dont really deep down want to buy a new centre back. It's fucking bizarre.

Considering the shocking number of goals we shipped last season, the powers that be should have been planning ahead while the season was still in progress, and the process of buying new defenders should have begun as soon as the current transfer window opened. You don't need to be a football expert to know that the problem should have been addressed urgently.

Bizarre? I'd say it's criminal. If Levy were a jockey, he'd be facing a stewards' inquiry by now, and charged with not trying, a serious offence in horse-racing.

Just watched Ali Gold confirm this in his latest video, it really is all so bizarre & simply inexcusable.

Pretty sure the board could only draw down that money last year. It’s not available now. Not that should matter anyway. We should be paying the going rate for players to make us compete. We pay the highest ticket prices.

What do you think the difference would be between signing Tapsoba and Tosin near or on deadline day compared to singing them say last week?

Is it a point or 2? A place or 2 in the league? Do we miss out on top 4 or Europe all together?

I get the feeling their plan was 1 of 2 things. 1 - A new coach will come in and be able to coach a couple of the existing bunch up to standard or 2 - wheel and deal from the existing group to fund replacements.
The first hasnt worked now for coming up to 5 years and the solitary offer from Russia for Sanchez is the only bid i can recall.
I keep checking here everyday hoping for a breakthrough with VDV and Tapsoba but its gone from 'probably one of/trying for both' to 'might get one by deadline day/acceptance Dier and Davies will be partnering Romero'.

Not missing the point at all. You said “simply no excusing it” to an entirely made up scenario that we’ll be scrapping around on deadline day for Lenglet.

I have no issue with you being annoyed at the current state of play. But at the same time, it’s entirely possible we sign a centre back this week. Things can move quickly as we’ve seen this window.

But we didn’t know what manager we were getting did we? And the complaints about “not buying players for a particular manager” would then stream in.

So therefore it seems the only way to keep people happy would have been to appoint the new manager sooner than we legally could and sign and sell all the relevant players before the pre-season tour. You’re entirely entitled to feel aggrieved and I wish you good mental health, (and not necessarily directed at your post) but I don’t see why in the same way that others can’t see that, in a forum situation, other people may feel differently (and are equally allowed to express those opinions).

I actually wasn’t referring to Lenglet, I was referring to first point made in the original comment (about the likelihood of having no new CB’s, for the opening of the season)

Things can move quickly indeed, it’s just a real shame to say the least, that we don’t seem to have our priorities straight.
