Costa downed tools last season and tried to engineer a move to China mid season so it's only fair that he's made an example of. People shouldn't feel sorry for Costa at all seeing as he hasn't turned up for training and has no intention to return to the club.

This is what happens when you have a load of firery personalities and egos in your club, they think they'really bigger than the club and will down tools when things don't go their way...it's been a feature of Chelsea for years.

I'm not sure he did actually. The latest article says that Conte stopped contract negotiations and that annoyed Acosta. I suspect this was the reason Costa threw a hissy fit. He wants a return to Spain by the sounds of things.

He did, he got an offer from China mid season and he wanted out but was stopped by Conte and rightly so. Chelsea were definitely in the right to do that because they hold his contract. He wants to go to Atletico because he knows Simeone wants him but they can't sign players until Jan because of their transfer ban.

I read a headline that this was going to be Conte's final season at Chelsea. Is that right? Why? And why would they make that public as it means players won't play for him.

Costa just released a statement saying he'll not return to England and is on his way to Athletico Madrid.

This is tres amusing

As much as I hate Chelsea I wish Roman would stand his ground and let Costa rot. Even if he doesn't wanna return to the club, simply don't let him sign for another club until his contract runs out. He's a nasty little shit on and off the pitch, poison to the game.

I agree but what has he done wrong in this instance?

Basically said he's on his way to Spain and won't ever be back in Chelsea again. Doesn't care about his contract etc, and Chelsea should be selling him to Athletico

Apart from downing tools in Jan, disrupting the team, refusing to train, leaving the country, criticising the manager, making private texts public, declaring his love for other teams.... I'm not sure

Costa acting like a spoilt child. Hopefully Chelsea don't cave in and allow him to leave. We could do with him lingering around Chelsea and ruining the mood there tbh

I'd normally have an issue with this sort of behaviour but...Chelsea...

To be honest I'm not sure what Chelsea were expecting to happen... You've got a temperamental player who's constantly giving the impression that he's not settled and eyeing other clubs, from a timing perspective - telling him 'have a good summer, oh by the way you're not in my plans' and leaving him to stew on that all summer and what to do - doesn't strike me as a sensible ploy.

Costa can't even play for Atletico until January, even if Chelsea were to sell him.
May as well make the most of a few months in the Brazilian sunshine!

Not really, he is a **** but he wanted to leave in january after not liking the manager but stayed for the benefit of the team

He has been treated badly by a manager highlighted by the fact the manager sent him a text saying "Hi Diego, I hope you are well. Thanks for the season we spent together. Good luck for the next year but you are not in my plan."

So Chelsea have said that he isnt in the clubs plans. Now chelsea want to sell him to China but he wants to go to atletico.

So its hypocritical to say he isnt making caring about his contract when chelsea aren't exactly intending to play him either. Chelsea have said they want him to come back and train with the reserve.

There is no intention for them to play him, but they are within their rights not to pay him, which I dont think he cares about.

As for criticising the manager, the manager clearly criticised him and said he isnt part of his plan yet they screwed themselves over by struggling to get replacement straight away and making themselves look silly

As for making texts public, I'm sure costa is just covering their back.

The issue is that Chelsea have fucked up imo, if they fine him wages which they are in their right to, they risk costa going to court saying that this team isnt intending to play instead just trying to force him to be at the club but with no intention of being a first team player and just to spite him.

What? :D

Costa wanted to leave in January because he got his head turned by a mammoth offer from China, everything else before that was fine, Costa wanted to go but Chelsea blocked it which they have every right to. Since they did that Costa downed tools for the rest of the season. Conte text him at the end of the season saying he can leave but then Costa knew of Atletico's interest. The problem for him is that Atletico can't sign anyone until January because they are banned so Chelsea haven't blocked a transfer to them at all, it's up to Diego Costa being professional enough to come back to England and train until he gets his move inJanuary...after all that's what he's being paid for.

Chelsea can do what the hell they want with him because they hold his contract, it's not for Costa to take action against Chelsea, it's Chelsea who should take action against Costa for breach of contract so if Chelsea decide to take it to court then Costa will lose out.

This is another case of player power and in Costa's case he thinks he's bigger than the club. Another reason why when you sign these mercenaries with poor mentalities who constantly get pampered then they start acting like arseholes which is a feature of Chelsea, they both deserve each other if you ask me.

If you just watched sky sports news now, they just confirmed what I said

An employment lawyer has said by Conte sending the text, there is an opportunity for it to go to court and costa possibly walking away from the contract in the worst case scenario
