That caller was probably correct though, Liverpool are generally better now but Rodgers "Suarez" season completely blurs the stats.

Still funny seeing them be salty. They were all so entitled like it was their right to have a good defence and a proper captain!

I liked the guy who was saying 'ok, they only had two shots but they got two goals. If they had seven shots they would have got seven goals - that's how bad the defense is' He used the word 'disgrace' a lot. :D

Klopp

'We had ansers for everything apart from the goals'

If only you didnt have to worry about those.
He also said they deserved to win 4-0 which tells you everything about his set up. He really believes as long as they score enough they'll win, regardless of how much they concede.

It is amazing how the media still won't touch Klopp

On the radio last night hysterical pool fans pointing out how badly organised they are, how obvious weaknesses are never addressed etc etc....and then the newspaper hack - Henry winter - just says yeah but they've got a BRILLIANT manager!

Like, ignore the evidence completely, both statements can't be true. They can't be badly organised AND have a brilliant manager

The BBC had a feature saying Liverpool have the best chance of qualifying of all the English clubs.

Smile.

I haven't seen it but I'm assuming it was written by their number one fan Phil McNulty who wont say a bad thing about them

I've said it before, but Liverpool are like an Ossie Ardiles team on roids.

It's funny, isn't it, the Liverpool team of the seventies and eighties was widely respected, but by-and-large their success was built on being defensively savvy rather than attacking brilliance, whereas we were always offensively flamboyant but sometimes technically naive. Now we have a manager who has us playing some great attacking football, but backed by the best defence in the league, whereas they are all gung-ho swashbuckling but couldn't defend for toffee.

That's why I don't think they will get into the top four this season - again. The had the benefit of not having any European football last season and finished two places lower than the last time they finished in the top four, also when they missed out of European football. So folk fapping about this amazing Liverpool team are kinda missing the point. They now have European football again (for a short time :) ), adding to their work load. but they haven't really done anything to fix their patently dreadful, to anyone who actually watched their games last season, defence. A few pages back @SugarRay said
It's amusing that they simply think that buying a defender or two will cure all their defensive issues. Lovren was supposed to sort it out, then Matip...now it's VVD. Sometimes a coach simply cannot build a top defensive unit. It's one of Klopps flaws
It's a point I've been wanting to make for a while (but been too busy). Folk think that because Klopp was successful at Germany's second club, of the moment, it inherently meant he was going to be successful at England's fifth best financed, but in many ways sixth best at most, ATM, club. But the leagues are very different. The English Prem is more competitive, more intense - you just don't get many gimmes here. Even the lowest team will keep fighting while they are a couple of goals down with twenty minutes to go. Even the bottom-feeders will at least try to blanket defend and hit anyone, anyone, on the break. He shouldn't be being surprised by this, it is essentially his third season here. You set your defence up to cope with what you are going to face. It isn't an afterthought. Poch and, I hate to say it, Mourinho, understand this. It's not about the personnel, it's about how the defence is organised and set-up. Buying one slightly better defender, or two, or whatever, and hoping that will make it a better defence is like a false economy. The only way to make a defence that you know will work for the BPL is to organise and set-up a defence that can cope with the BPL. I hardly think buying Oxlade-chamberlain is going to do it.

If he doesn't realise this after three seasons here, and do something drastic to remedy it, even if it means the goals temporarily dry up, I really don't see how they can ever be anything other than an occasionally brilliant attacking unit destined to fall below the level they aspire to reach. You then have to rearrange the attack to bring the goals back while retaining defensive structure. It might not be quite as flamboyant but as the old adage says attack wins matches, defence wins titles.

People need to read this ^

Agree completely with this.

This is one of the reasons why pressing teams work so well with a back three. It's a way to attack down the flanks, press from the front without leaving the defence exposed.

Also to pull this off you need quality players in possession and fast technically savvy defenders.

Liverpool don't really have either.

I was watching the Sevilla game, Liverpool were impressive but, one mistake and goal.

Watford - 3, City - 5, Sevilla - 2. This is what happens when you play like this without the defensive countermeasures.

If Spurs play the way they played against dortmund against Liverpool then Spurs will win, let them have possession and break.

I will be shocked if Liverpool make top 4 this season.

The opposition will always feel they can get a goal or two against them. So if you keep them at arms length or they fail to take chances they are vulnerable. You can't really say that about United, City, chelsea and us. That's why that'll be the top 4

I was saving posting that until we were in the run up to playing them but yes I agree. Its our best way of winning against them.

Especially how we attacked in the second half with the long balls over the top into the areas in between their centre backs and behind their fullbacks.

Superb attacking side but no defence

Their attackers contribute next to nothing defensively. It's why they look so good going forward. Our attackers are always putting in tackles where they can and following instructions on defensive triggers, but I don't think Klopp pays any attention to that. On a different note, I think the Coutinho saga will hurt them, especially if Barca move on and Coutinho misses out on his dream move.

I think Klopp's done a good job with what he has, but they're obviously lacking quality defensive players and haven't addressed that need in the transfer market somehow. So I think they just take an approach of we'll outscore the opponent, which leaves them even more open defensively. They do play some really good attacking football though.

A Liverpool fan at work (surprisingly rational) is genuinely perplexed that Lovren is a professional footballer. They all know how shit their defenders are and it's crazy that they haven't addressed it.

Even that won't help too much if they don't function in harmony with their attackers.
