Also just a reminder that posting the fixture list in full still has various legal issues (which get muddier ever season).

Please don't do it!

A bit simplistic view IMO. I think we can all agree, that batches of certain teams in a row, has the possibility to affect confidence massively either way. Hitting these "harder" fixtures after a good run while confidence is high, has the ability to affect the result somewhat. Couple that with how the run of our opponents up until our meeting is, and the scheduling might not be all that unimportant.
Because "form" is a thing and there's a psychological aspect to it. If the game was played by robots then you might be right but it's not.

Also other commitments (a busy international tournament vs a summer off) can heavily affect games at both ends of the season, as can fixture congestion, cup runs, Europe, etc.

Saying "they all play the same games in the end" and ignoring the order and its subsequent implications is just wrong.

You did ask :p
The problem is thinking you know what is a difficult fixture and what is an easy one at this stage.

Was anyone thinking Leicester would be a difficult fixture this time last year? What about Man U or Chelsea? How did people feel about Newcastle?

There's a level of chaos, especially this year with so many new managers and a few squads that may be totally overhauled that make predicting the difficulty of fixtures mute. Like you just mentioned form, there's no way to know when we'll be rolling into a fixture on form/off form or the opposition.

Not to mention the fact cup games may postpone fixtures as well.

I'm not saying you can assess ahead of time whether it's a "good" list or not. It's all an interconnected system and how other teams are performing has to feed into it as well.

My whole point is that at the end of the season you can't say "we all played the same games, the order didn't matter" as it clearly has to have a strong influence.

Whilst I agree that you cannot predict exactly at this time how each and every team will perform, the hardest fixtures will most probably be those against the normal top teams. Granted, there might be an exception here or there like Leicester last season.

Also, I think most would agree that it's best to avoid the promoted teams in the first 5 or so games, as most of them seem to overperform at the start of the season, and then falter. Likewise, I would prefer to avoid any of the predicted relegation candidates in the last 5 or so games of the season, as they'll be fighting for their lives at that point.

if the fixtures are correct we have some tough fixtures either side of our groupmatches, which I feel finding a Dembele cover pretty important of we really want to compete on both fronts

@Rob if the above is not allowed please remove

Have we still not learn't that it doesn't matter who you play but how you play.

Newcastle away was only a few weeks ago....

And the third dimension is who is available for selection. An injured Kane, with no job share signed before the season starts, on top of a suspended Dembele, would mean we'd struggle to beat anyone. One key injury, just like the whole of last season, is all it would take...

Have faith, I hear people say, it's different now, well we didn't address the Kane issue in any of the last three windows, so if I lack confidence in an early deal anyone can see why.

I've just trawled through the opening fixtures for all 23 PL seasons, taking us, Arsenal, United, Liverpool and Chelsea opening games. This is actually disgusting reading.

In 23 seasons Spurs have had 7 opening games at home, 1 of which was postponed due to riots, so we actually played our first game away to United the weekend after everyone else. That means we've had 16 opening games away from home. Our first opening game at WHL came in the PL's 6th season, and it came vs United.

Next lowest for home games is Liverpool, with 10. Then it's United, surprisingly with 12. Chelsea come next with 14 home opening games. Chelsea didn't actually play an opening away game until the 5th PL season.

Arsenal lead the way of these 5 teams though, with an astonishing 16(sixteen!!!!!) home opening day fixtures. They didn't play their first opening game away until the 6th season of the PL.

Anyone who says this computer generates random fixtures is bullshitting. Either that or the guy who created it supports one of Arsenal or Chelsea.

This was my post last season before or after the fixtures were released I can't remember which. If we are at home for the first game of the season I will be absolutely astonished.

Saying something's a hoax is the easiest cop out to anything. It's like when someone post something incredibly stupid on twitter. The next thing you read from them is "sorry i was hacked". Its complete bullshit 99.999999999999% of the time. So no, this means nothing. If you actually believed that statement from the league, i have a barrell of oil to sell you. All it does is it gives the league cover to now go ahead and change things before the schedule is officially released.

It's probably a draft run they made, will be interesting to see how similar or not the real one is

the funny thing is with those fixtures is that September shows a difficult 3 matches, and 1 I would rather get 2 of ops out the way as early as possible before the new managers make their mark, and 2 we had a very difficult run in November last season, so we can cope
