Remember that four of our most influential players are out. Gomes, Defoe, Dawson and Modric.

Just a thought

im sure manchester united fans have been saying the same for the last 20 years.......

Exactly what I was thinking when I was watching the match - I have seen the Mancs play worse and win, and when they do it it is what makes them champions, because they can play badly and still win.

This win puts us (temporarily) into fourth. But, oh well:roll:

ive calmed down a bit

I don't get it. Calmed down from what? We scored 3 goals in the last 10 or so minutes to win a game. You should be ecstatic, yet you're coming out with a phrase used by several people on here after the first half against Young Boys. You know, where we conceded 3 goals in half hour.

If you get that worked up, that you have to calm down from being in an irrationally bad mood after a 3-1 win, then your threads will only be full of negativity unless we play the perfect match.

people dont like realism on here but here goes...

3 points today should not mask the fact we were truly awfull....

we created very little & the decision to drop lennon & play our very best player out on the right of a 4 was just plain stupid....ridiculous..

all our best work came from bale (as always) & when van der vaart got the ball centrally in the final 3rd (his fuckin position)...

please harry dont let success go to your head & start making pathetic decisions like benitez did..

we should play 4-5-1 every week im....our midfield 5 is so fluid that teams simply wont be able to cope & just come & play 5 across the middle & nullify us...

weve got some amazing players & the first half of the bremen game is how we should always set out imo with modric obviously coming in when fit....

just my opinion.....harry lovers he got it wrong today, very wrong.....& yet sooooooo right on tuesday....just crazy imo!!
Yeah, but our three goals all came from the right. Although I too would have prefered 451, we were okay and on another day it could have been 9-1, no exagaration here. Lighten up, we won, enjoy!

We were awful? What?

We dominated the game. We had 18 attempts on and off target. Hamanan was amazing first half. The script didn't go to plan but the result was fair.

We should be quite pleased. At about 60-70 minutes at 1-0 and Wolves wasting ever minute they good, the players were getting tetchy. But to their credit, they dug in, got control of the game again and got the reward. Before we would have just given up. Slowly but surely 'arry is working his magic.

Very strange appraisal from the OP. One thing is for sure, we were hardly awful.

Watching it now, I agree. I think Bradley Allen's right, we have to show more urgency against bus-parkers and move the ball more quickly and positively, but awful? Stroll on.

OP has a point, we played well moving the ball around but ultimately our end product was mostly of the same - hoofing it forward to Crouch or giving it to Bale for him to run all the way to the goal line and then cross in the box. There wasn't that much of clever play in the final third. The only two that tried anything unusual and out of the box were Keane and VDV. If King had to play as a CM at moments, that alone has to tell how much we were lacking in the CM creativity. I would gladly play him as CM he's gor everything that is needed in order to be good - ball control, vision, passing and desire to go forward.

Wolves are a decent outfit and we certainly needed to do more than just turn-up today for the win.

At times, we played some great football today but I agree that it was still some way off what we are capable of doing.

The bottom line is that although we've really not put-in a truly great performance this season, we're in fourth place in the League and rolling along quite nicely in Europe too.

An added bonus is that our main rivals for fourth place - Aston Villa, Liverpool, Everton and Manchester City - are all having their fair share of problems so far this season too.

To come away with all three points today against a team who did the 'double' over us last season was no mean feat.

Onwards and upwards!

One thing sure is becoming more and more clear: our over-reliance on Bale and over-usage of the "just get it to Baley" tactics. Added to the usual heavy use of long ball to Crouchy, we are in danger of becoming too predictable and consequently struggle to score in the league - where teams have realized how to deal with us.

It is why Crouch is markedly less effective in EPL than he is against some naive defending in Europe.

Our goals came when VDV started playing more in the hole behind the strikers, Hutton started bombing forward and Lennon came on to stretch their defence on the right. But let's remember that 2 out of 3 substitutions were forced. Had they not happened, we may well have been talking about yet another "one of those days" etc - having lost more points at home to another workmanlike team.

We should be able to dominate these games at home - and we did not really do that today. Wolves were dangerous throughout the match and had several chances to score another goal, even after 1-1. Hopefully we will have more games where we get the result in the end rather than the ones where we create enough chances without playing too well only to end up losing 1-0.

Despite the bad press Wolves seem to recieve they are a decent Premier League side, it was always going to be the case that we would have to work our socks off to get a victory.

Their style of play does rather reflect the demeanour of their manager, dour and miserabalist, and will never be to our liking, but comparing their resources with ours what are they supposed to do, roll over like Wigan did last year? Good luck to them for not doing that.

And yes, we left it late - but thanks in part to some timely substitutions we got the win we deserved and this reflects the strength in depth we now have at the club at a time when we have injuries to several key players.

It's also worth noting that was only the 2nd time Wolves have shipped 3 goals in a Premier League game for almost 9 months.

Plenty of reasons to be cheerful.

To the Op I have this to say........ mate, in Norn Iron we have a wee saying and it goes like this this........"Wind you neck in"......today we battled and won.....yeah sure we could do with a top notch (world class) striker, but that hasn't happened for us(despite some of your ITK predictions in the summer) yet we got it done. Be flippin happy and have a moan after a defeat..................jessie

I'd agree with that. Although, you could hardly criticise us for the "get it to Baley" tactic. He's one of the best players in the world. United never had any qualms about giving it to Ronaldo.

I noted that it took 18 minutes for us to get the ball out to Bale in the attacking third. Doing this coincided with us finally getting control of the match. How Foley stayed on the pitch, I'm not sure. With a more confident (okay, okay, better) striker than Keane, Bale would have racked up at least two-three more assists.

Match day coaching is about adaption and flexibilty. I thought our shape was pretty fluid especially in the first 25 minutes. VDV didn't play wide right at all.....Crouch, Keane and Kaboul all had their go going to receive the ball out there. That is why when Hutton and to a lesser extent Lennon came on Wolves were surprised that we were attacking them directly that side when it was Bale on the left who had done it for the rest of the game. No one has mentioned it but I thought their little quick wide guy gave us a lot of problems and only when he was withdrawn did we get over the top of them.

We weren't awful, but it wasn't the most convincing display. I think we lack alittle bit of firepower up front with JD missing. If JD had a few of the chances Keano had, im pretty confident he would of bagged. Hopefully Keano will score in the near future and restore some much needed confidence in himself.
