When you work til 6 or 7pm it’s not exactly an easy thing to get to Wembley (or even WHL at a push).
There was more than 46k at Real Madrid. I'm guessing 40k people don't work until 6 or 7pm so that probably only accounts for a small percentage. Like a lot of other reasons. Fact is, a lot of people didn't fancy it or prioritise it for whatever reason.

Fixtures are coming thick and fast, and Christmas is just around the corner. I got lucky and bagged a decent seat for £45, but add on a few quid for a programme, some food, a hour drive each way to the tube, tube tickets.... it ain't cheap and ain't easy to get there.

For me, I've never been to so many home games as I have this season.

The tickets are easier to get hold off and I live near Watford which is on the same line as Wembley Park.

Getting to WHL is a pain by public transport for me and I usually drive there and park in the Bookers Car Park.

I wouldn't take the attendance to seriously. Tourists will take up a lot of the allocation.

I’ve got from Watford Junction to The Lane in an hour by train. I’m not sure what people think is a reasonable distance.

Working in East London and it's mostly United fans. You'll get local fans for the smaller clubs like Palace, Millwall, Brentford etc., but Chelsea's fan base is in Kent and Sussex, whereas Arsenal's is scattered like ours around Essex, Hertfordshire and Middlesex.

London is just crawling with United fans and plenty of Liverpool fans to boot.

So you remember the late 60s, all of the 70s and most of the 80s? Tottenham High Road was definitely a scary place for away fans back in the day.

If those work in London or have the means to get into the city for kick off can get there then cool. But there are those of us that have a variety of reasons we cannot do midweek (or even weekend) games. I’m not bothered about getting back late, it’s the getting there for kick off that gets me. I finish at 6 or 7. Either get home or go straight for train (if on time) 45-50 minutes then tube.

It comes down to travel time, work, costs, opposition.

Everyone has a different reason as to why they cannot make this or that game. If majority can’t do Brighton December midweek, then I’d assume that would be due to the costs, time and quality of opposition.

I’m getting married next year so at some point in the next few years I imagine I’ll be in the same boat. Congratulations belatedly on your young daughter. Harriet I take it? Or Lily perhaps? ;)

If we’ve had the conversation before it would have been months, I’ve only lived in Andover since February, was in Newbury for two years before that and in north London the rest of my life.

Thanks dude, sadly the Mrs wouldn't allow a Spurs themed name so we went for Marnie instead, little bit different. I think I might get to call a Dog Harry or Hugo one day but that'd be about it. Try to look forward to being a dad, it's not easy but it's very cool all the same. There's nothing else quite like it.

Hhmm weird, it was years ago that we spoke, must've been about something else I guess and the Andover/Basingstoke thing is just a coincidence.

What you all moaning at?
Left work at 5, drove 20 miles to Peterborough to pickup my 13 year old son, we drove like we stole it down to London, tube from Stanmore to the game. After we had TWO diversions into nowhere and he got home after midnight with school the next day.

We wouldn’t have changed it for the world

I've had a couple of those going to Stanmore. Never choose the quicker route!

Only 50k last night. London Derby slightly surprising. Was 1 st home game in 10 days as well. Ok post Xmas , Thursday night. But I’m sure club were disappointed with that. People just fed up with Wembley?

I am sure crowd segregation would have played a part

I imagine the team aren't too happy either, must be harder for them to play there without the WHL atmosphere.
Thankfully only 8 home games left in the PL.

To be honest I don't know whether I prefer empty seats, or seats taken up by tourists/neutrals. They're both as bad as each other when it comes to atmosphere.

I think 60k will be perfect at the new stadium. We should regularly get crowds of 50k+ even for the smaller games, and in a smaller stadium it wont be as noticable if people don' bother coming.
